Just goes to show putting in the hard yards of Shield cricket means something and you more equipped to handle test cricket once you get there.

Compared to throwing players in before there time exposing them and some never recover from it.

Would be great if Webster could do more bowling and take more wickets to go with his batting.

Along with Green if he doesn't get better at the batting at 3 before he can starts bowling again we should look to replace him.

Same with Kostas he needs to start scoring runs or won't get through the ashes.

Watching the highlights, the start looked good from Sam and Uzzie till Uzzie got done LBW and then Sam kinda lost it in the same over, the Smithy skied one to the boundry but was caught

I think the selectors need to go looking for more dudes like him. Previously overlooked, older, maybe not the best shield batting average but good test cricket qualities. This isnt the best example of the above but Maddinson is someone who should be above Konstas.

He was previously over looked cause he was plod, below average for many years. Made his FC debut in 2014

The last 2-3 years he has been a gun in Shield, and deserved his test place on his form

His FC stats may not be great now but they were way worse, another 2-3 years of form like he has had, those stats will end up pretty good.

Okay. Good point. So we are looking for guys with sustained good form (2 years) even if a line has previously been put through the name and who on paper, due to average, look bad.
So long as word is out there that it isn't too late even if you have been "plod" until now.

Not sure what your trying to say here

But if you are basing your selection on stats , rather than current (and preferably sustained form for over a year plus ) then that is a poor and neglectful approach to take..and guys like Webster never get a crack ..

Never too late , unless of course you have been given multiple opportunities already , or in rare situations like Bancroft where (IMO) there were other issues involved, despite him killing it in Shield at the time and the form opener, and still worthy of one more opportunity
