Who's the greatest coach in Origin history? Mal Meninga (20 from 30). It shows that coaching is meaningless over such a small sample of games. Bellamy is 2 from 9 ffs.
It's not meaningless when the coach is actively part of the selection committee.

Well it doesn't, which is why Bellamy's record with Smith, Cronk and Slater in his team is pretty much the inverse of his record coaching against them. If he could've picked them for NSW I'm sure he would have. I doubt he thought the likes of Ennis and Kurt Gidley were better players than the Queenslanders.

The point was coaching isn't meaningless when the (origin) coach is actively part of the selection committee too. Nothing you've said proves or even supports the opposing position you're taking...

Went along to Qld’s training session yesterday. Was probably only 100 others there and great watching them work on their defensive patterns.

Plenty of communication which you could actually hear with so few in attendance, especially the “95” shout, harking back to the 1995 Fatty’s Nobodies series.

Seems a very happy camp. Still think you blokes will be too strong next Wednesday but stranger things have happened.

Wonder if they used the 95 shout last year ?

You need to back up your claim that Origin team selection makes any kind of difference. Until then my point stands.

Amazing, since not many of them would even have been born in 95.

I think this one can easily go either way. Whoever wants it more, and gets the bounce of the ball (or whistle) on the night.

It’s embroided on to the sleeves of the jerseys this year too. Might need a bit of Brett Dallas magic come Wednesday :)

On a side note Hoppy was really good to my little fella when he told him he was an Eels supporter. Hopefully he gets back to his best before too long.

Here is a random one with Shibasaki making his origin debut.

His only major game of his career so far he has played was 1 NRL final in 2019 for the Broncos.

I had a quick peek at the side Brisbane had that day when we flogged them 58-0 in the semi final 6 x years ago.

Now that side had 12 players who have gone on to or had played origin at some point in there careers.

Alex Glenn, Jamayne Issaka were both Kiwi Internationals & ineligible for origin but still considered rep players in past or future.

Which leaves Turpin, Lodge & Segeyaro as the only players from that day to never have played high quality rep football. (Origin or Kiwis)

Just a quirk from probably our greatest day/victory since 1986

I think Queensland win tonight.

Just smells and feels like a QLD ambush.

NSW are walking wounded.

I hate the fact Daley has repeated the same mistake as he did in his previous tenure by staying loyal to the same 17 that lost in Perth.

Nice guy but isn't ruthless enough to be a coach

He only had to make 1 tweak and that was move King to the bench start with Keanon from Souths and punt stefano.

Billy was ruthless he dropped Fotuika after a win.

And ill compare Daley to Madge last year.

We flogged QLD in game 2 in Melbourne now Daley would have kept the same side imo.

Madge didn't he dropped Haumole for the decider and brought in Mitch Barnett because it suited the conditions/occasion. And was vindicated with the result.

Barnett was on of our best in that game and if you go off Laurie's philosophy he wouldn't have made a change.

That for me sums up the difference between having a proper coach & media pundit.

A tweak here and there for the side can make all the difference.

NSW may win tonight and i hope they do.

But if they lose is Daley brave enough to punt Nathan Cleary next year i doubt it

I still think you blokes will be too good for us at home. But yeah, there’s a whiff of Qld ambush in the air. We would need to keep it really tight until the last twenty or so. If you blokes skip to an early lead it’s curtains. And no chance Cleary is dropped next year, regardless. Rightly or wrongly he will be there.

Dropping merkins after a loss means you are making them the scapegoat. If he was so shit, why was he picked in the first place?

No, it just means you've decided to drop them... to try something different under different circumstances against different opposition under different conditions.

If you troll posts are so shit, why do you bother in the first place?
