Gus was talking about NRL club culture a while ago and said it takes 18 months to build a club and 18 months to destroy one.

In Origin it takes less than 12 months.

See also: Qld under Kev/ Paul Green/ Michael Hagan vs Qld under Meninga/ Slater

Even NSW under Freddy that last series of his vs Madge last year...

I would prefer Gus came back next series, or Sticky juggles the Blues job with his Raiders commitments or Bellyache suck it up and go all-out vs. his Storm players- than see Laurie Daley coach another series.

Threw away 2013, won 2014 off the back of the playing group and Jarryd Hayne at his peak. Got smashed in the 2015 decider, would have been swept in 2016 were it not for some of the most one-sided refereeing and a miracle try in Game 3, threw away 2017, threw away the 2025 decider.

Laurie is a people-pleaser, everyone likes him. But I suspect he lets the players run the show in Origin camp, and it showed on the field tonight...

If the NSWRL are serious about turning a corner and avoiding mistakes past, they get somebody else to lead next series.
The comparison between Madge & Laurie and how one is a coach and one is a media pundit couldn't be more obivous then the last 2 years in game 3 selections.

Game 2 last year - NSW put the cleaners through QLD by 40.

Go up to QLD for game 3 decider - Easy decision keep the same 17 - But Madge being a hard edge coach who makes tough decisions drops Haumole for Barnett to add some steel into the side for a match that would be a scrap. And it showed in the performance.

This year we get beat game 2 - Laurie straight away says nope i am sticking solid for the decider.

And everyone could see he only had to make 1 or 2 tweaks not wholesale changes. But it was the same old shit we saw in 2015, 2017.

Keeping things the same after a loss his too nice to drop blokes and be ruthless. He says he learnt a lot from his first time as coach.

But in reality he hasn't.

Slater won game 2 and still made changes just like Madge last year.

Bellamy has now been involved in 4 origin series and all ended up in embarrassing defeats.

Unless he gives up the Storm job i probably don't want him involved.

I don't think Bellamy is an origin coach.

Players don't want to come into a 10 day camp, get screamed at and sodomised by a lunatic, and then leave. He works at Melbourne because he basically builds a cult, he's obviously very good at building a squad but also he builds a squad that's going to usually buy into his mental madness and closed group mentality. He doesn't have that control at Origin.

Bellamy’s 3 series were a complete failure. I don’t care about how good the Maroons were at the time. Jarryd Hayne is the only reason why he wasn’t whitewashed back to back.

Yeah i dont think Bellamy is suited to origin either

What his record 3/12 when he has been involved for 4 series losses.

Plus i don't think he is willing to give up the weaknesses of his storm players.

Ill tell you what its reinforced again why Wayne Bennett shits all over Bellamy as the greatest modern day coach of alltime.

Bennett has won comps at 2 x clubs, International stuff with Australia & NZ, Origin series in multiple eras including the 2020 series with a backline of Corey Allan, Edrick & Brenko Lee, Phil Sami.

Compare that to Bellamy who has never left his comfort zone at Melbourne and won nothing without Cam Smith.

Bennett over Bellamy every day of the week when it comes to greatness.

Bellyache was only involved for Game 1 this series wasn't he?

Has there ever been so much hype for a player as mid as Lenui?
You can add that to the long list of examples of brand dead coaching by Loz.

Leniu can break open games in very specific scenarios and 14-0 down after 32 minutes isn't one of them. He needed to come on at 8-0 when things were flat.

The usage of Hudson Young and Connor Watson was even worse.

Plodders like King and Stefano are not fit to clip on May and Keon's bumbags let alone play Origin.

Every time NSW lose you look at the forward's metres gained and there is always a heap of them making f**k all.

King was fine off the bench, but is not a starter at origin level.

Stefano? Biggest fraud. Did SFA when he was picked by Fittler whilst he was playing at the Tigers, and reinforced that when picked this year. Should never be anywhere near a Blues jersey again until he shows regular, consistent good form over prolonged periods in first grade. He should have been dropped after Game 2, and Keon brought in to replace King as the starter for Game 3 with King back to the bench.

Again, another "Daley master stroke" in sticking with the same team for Game 3 after the awfulness of Game 2.

If the NSWRL elect to keep Daley on for 2026 I might make other plans on those 3 Wednesday nights. You could probably find something else to do, just check the score occasionally and be able to guess (with near accuracy) how the game actually plays out.

They should've sacked him at the end of the 2016 series and didn't. They paid for that with the 2017 debacle and I am convinced under Freddy NSW would've won that series.

The NSWRL made the right call in sacking Freddy after 2023 when it became obvious he'd lost the dressing room. In comes Madge and instantly (like under Freddy in 2018) we see notable results.

How I feel about last night really depends on what follows from this. I understand they needed somebody to take over when Madge got the Broncos job, but the NSWRL need to show they've learned from past mistakes and cut ties with everybody responsible for last night. We already know that playing group are capable of much better under different leadership, so clearly the fault lies with the leadership. It absolutely reeked of sub-standard preparation.

King is a plodder. He's got a decent motor and a good work ethic but he has literally no other impact in attack or defence. He's basically Mitch Barnett painted beige. The whole pack was a mess tbh.

Barnett was a loss and should have been replaced by Terrell May. Keon should have been on the bench as soon as he was fit, he's been an absolute beast the last two years and he can play middle and edge. Liam Martin offers nothing, Hudson Dumb should have started and Dylan Lucas off the bench. Leniu I can kind of cop, but Daley doesn't know how to use him.

Daley is a much bigger problem than Bellamy, but coaching Origin requires literally Bellamys biggest weakness as a coach - getting teams up for big games. He's never going to be a good Origin coach.

90% coaching issue

You can't get players with good chemistry, who won comps together, to play well. Sorry, but that is like buying a Ferrari and losing a race to a stock corolla.

We lacked sharpness and fitness, and had no plan B. No effort on kick chase, either.

2026, have your group of players for positions, and pick on form/fitness and players who play at a high level in those positions. They will have plenty of time to adapt to game plans.

For example, for the 7, my group shortlist would be, Moses, Cleary, Katoa. Whoever is fittest and in best form, gets the selection.

Nathan was bad but his leg is f**ked. If he was from Queensland we'd be hearing how BRAVE he was instead of shit.

As flimsy as he is maybe papenhuzen is need at fullback to at least give some spark and ask questions of the defence. Stefan is a dud at Origin level and nothing special at club level, May and Haas would be a killer opening combination and both can play big minutes allowing others to play short high intensity stints.

overall though NSW had the squad to win but just seemed like a pack of cocky asshats who thought the win was a formality. Game 1 walk in the park, game 2 the attitude was that refs cost them so no need for improvement. No major changes needed bar attitude. Also Katoa has to be somewhere in long term planning

Hey mate, it's your right to have an opinion about Nathan Cleary but we have to think of how we talk about other people.

Just remember what happened to the last Qld coach..

- Bloke who's enjoyed coaching 3 of 4 Origin series against plodders.

This is another thing, how many injured merkins did Loz just keep picking and then not managing? Moses game 2, came into camp with a calf problem, which is fine it's fking Origin, but then Loz and staff ignored training plans and he snapped it.

Cleary and To'o obviously injured, Crichton must have been too.

Funny enough, that's what I did this year knowing Daley was back.
One of the best decisions ever made.
