He hasn’t played reserve grade since he was at Manly. Whatever is wrong with him started before Ryles got here. His form dipped severely in 2023.

He had done his job already and that was to get a 4yr deal with POs and MOs and set him up. Basically he fooled us. His form dipped cause his future was sorted and he didn't give a shit.
Nothing magic about it or mysterious. It happens a lot. Amazing how players go into career form in a contract year.....

Shaun Lane was a guy who was known to be lazy and it's why the Dogs and Warriors moved him on. Poor attitude.
He had a purple patch and we threw the bank at him. It was ridiculous to think this wasn't a huge risk

But Matterson was an Origin player who was only going to be 32 at the end of the 4 year contract. Of course he was a marquee player.

Matterson was always known to have issues with the playing group.
He is a Parra junior and we cut his contract and happily let him go to the Chooks.
And then they happily let him go to Tigers and he bitched and moaned there before coming home. He was always a huge risk based on his career so far.

So what contracts has Matterson finished. I guess none. 0/4

The only classification it makes is "professional career", which can obviously mean different things to different people. I did a deeper dive but it was vague at best and mainly referred to prime years (25-30) and later career (late 30's).

I think that’s a fair point however why has every single BA bum boy fallen off a cliff including his two nepo kids? The only one I’d argue has improved although it was from a very low base is Russell. However every single one of them on big contracts has regressed. ALL OF THEM. Which is why Ryles has or will be f**king them off.

I think emotionally we went into/came out of the 2022 GF very poorly and subconsciously we weren’t prepared to put in the level of effort we had between 2019-22.

It’s not easy ffs. But also demoralising that only a couple of clubs are able to fit a premiership roster under the salary cap. Everyone else gets the squad ripped apart before they get close.

The NRL has to try and work out some level of compensation for when a player is injured and the offender gets found guilty of an indiscretion that caused the injury. It simply isnt fair that we lose KK for the season because of what was effectively foul play (against the rules) by Tago. And Dunster says Hi too.

Lane is doing school holiday clinics with his brother teaching the next generation on building up mental strength, resilience & how to perform under pressure.
