I know the NRL is different to other sports, but:

Joel Embiid
Barry Sanders
Megatron
Francesco Totti

All chose to stay with poor teams, even though they could literally pick wherever they wanted to play.

For the record - I don't ever think Tino would even join the Eels.

But stranger things have happened.

Everyone's view on Tino seems to ignore the fact that all of the other 18 teams in the NRL would likely be interested in his services, which is the biggest stumbling block the club will struggle to over come if he becomes available.
I don't think most clubs could realistically fit him under the cap, given their current forward packs. There is also the fact he left Melbourne for the Titans. This shows he is motivated solely by money, and the top clubs don't seem to want players like this.

Oh yeah dont worry i was told the other week at a sportsman lunch i was at.

Happened to be sitting at the same table with someone who used to be involved with our club but isn't anymore and runs a massive business spread across the world that has massive contacts with potential TPA opportunities.

That the whole week the Galvin circus started to pivot he was getting released our club were telling him everything was under control Galvin will be here next week. His services or those he may know wasn't required.

Also on the table that day was a prominent Parra official from back in the day. Now he isn't involved with this btw.

But i know for a fact we had some officials pretty naive to what was actually going thinking they had the Galvin deal signed and sealed. And this ex official was trying to tell them on the friday night we beat Manly you sure its under control his mail was he is going to the dogs. The club were in denial

But i think it reinforces some people with some pretty influence roles at the club just don't have the footy smarts or proactiveness to get shit done in the crunch moments.

And were left at alter with the tail between our legs
Galvin's a reserve grader. Are you suggesting we should've increased our offer for him? We offered what we thought he was worth. It turned out to not be enough. It's better that he signed elsewhere than us overpay him.

Embiid was always a stat padding fraud more interested in his own individual success than actually winning as a team. As soon as he got his pity MVP it was downhill and the injuries have only compounded that.

I don't disagree at all.

But my point is he has chosen to stay put, when he could go elsewhere.

Maybe he was a poor example, though.

But yeah - Embiid has nothing on The Joker.

I'd be surprised if we're anywhere near the highest offer for his services though, so if it's all about money he won't be coming anyway.

It's possible his departure from Melbourne wasn't money related. Maybe he doesn't want to live in a big city.

Whether he wants to live in a big city is irrelevant.

If we do get him it's because of Ryles and if we don't, then it's MoN and Jim's fault for not convincing him to sign regardless of his own wants and wishes.

But yeah - Embiid has nothing on The Joker.
I’d argue he chose to stay put because the team was practically built to make him look good. He doesn’t even belong in the same conversation with Jokic.

I don't think he is saying that. But he's pointing out that our blokes were walking around with bags over their heads while Gus boffed them from behind. We wanted him, we thought we had him, but he was never coming. Good result? Probably, but through luck rather than management.

Doncic is my guy, and so I had quite the reaction when the Lakers got him, but I do love Jokic too. I think I just have a thing for fat, pasty white Euros.

I was stoked when we signed Doncic - I love that dude!

I love players with skill, and vision - Trae Young is another one of my favourites, because some of his passes are simply disgusting.

My point is missing out on any player isn't due to poor management, it's just due to market forces. Poor management results in overpaying players, or more to the point, overpaying too many players, since most clubs have to overpay at least some of them or they wouldn't have a team.
