So is your claim that the crowd was 30k Spaniards? Or travelling Superleague fans wanting a holiday in Spain. Or are you backing the claim that there are Rugby Union players that are huge in Spain that get them excited to buy tickets?
I’d say 20-25k were spaniards given the evidence we have of travelling fans numbers to that part of the world and Catalans home crowds.

To say there is ‘no’ interest in rugby (sic) in Spain when we have already seen a significant interest in a one off game of league is blatantly false. I have no idea if union has any following, sht sport that I have no interest in other than deriding it.

Again, it is the centrepiece of their late June to early August with football on a break. Sky have explicitly said this - it's the only rugby property they value that way btw (they also still pay for the summer tours), if you want to take that angle. They will be launching the Lions Channel shortly and have turned their core production facilities over for it.

In terms of the value of Sky or not, it is very valuable and rugby moving so much to BT Sports and now Premier is really damaging for it.

I don't really care about all your other winging here about rich boys etc, that's more of your own self narrative that you have to deal with and the real world doesn't.
Care to comment now on this being the ‘centrepiece’ and the general media coverage in the ‘real world’.

The Lions tour is getting hardly any coverage in the U.K., anywhere. I didn’t even realise the 2nd test was last Saturday, I only heard the result yesterday.

No doubt, the amount of coverage has been negatively impacted by the success of the English woman’s football team - they’ve taken pretty much all of the sporting media attention.

The Lions tour is predictably a damp squib. Yes it’s got a good following of old boys with fat wallets on a good holiday, but that’s it.

How we’re viewing figures in Australia for the 2nd test? Viewing figures in UK are not being publicised.

You didn't realise but come back here every few days to make the same variant of that post.

It was on the biggest UK sports broadcaster and the centrepiece of their last month offering. You keep saying that to make the fellas here feel good but it isn't factual.

I’m here for all threads, not just this one…..

Are you in the UK? What’s your view on how much media coverage it’s getting? Yes it was shown on sky sports, but how much wider traction do you think it’s getting? Has it caught the imagination of the wider public? Are non-RU fans tuning in en-mass to check it out?

t’s delusional

The quote basically says as long as they release players for tests (which they won’t if games clash) he’s ok with it

Rip top 14 English premiership super rugby etc

You become a feeder league
I'm not for a second suggesting it would not have a massive impact on rugby. I merely pointed out that the statement isn't accurate, we don't know how it will ultimately shake out.

Bit broader than the UK, kid.

Sky Sports is the biggest sports broadcaster in the UK & Ireland. Look at their socials the last few weeks and the traction it as got beyond them just having a Sky Sports Lions channel or whatever. Talksport also have it as their major sport of the summer. The Tests have led all the sports news the last couple of weeks.

I'm not sure what exactly you want here, it is objectively a very big event in this part of the world that is backed up by the money it makes the four Home Unions.

Again if you just want the lads on here to feel good keep pushing this line every few days.

The Lions viewing figures were just over the 1m across Sky Sports UK and Ireland according to barb. My company has a paid account with barb. It is around the same as watch test cricket on Sky.

England in the women's Euros last week drew 8.3 (Semi final) and 12.2m (final) on the BBC UK to put it into some kind of perspective. It really hasn't made a dent in the UK outside its core rugby audience. In the UK it is football, daylight, and then the rest.

That gives you 2m viewers across both the UK, Ireland and Australia. It is a prestige event in the rugby calendar but let's not pretend it has wider appeal.

Well that’s a dose of reality for our deluded friend.

is there any full time pro option for RU/RL females outside of the NRLW?
It is more central contracts for elite player groups in RU like England national team and Black Ferns. If the NRLW can get that minimum wage up to the $80-90k mark after the next TV deal, it will be a massive pull for athletic young women across all codes. Will also mean those marquee players like Isabelle Kelly will be on $150-200k+.

What isn't spoken about is the work the RLPA are doing for the NRLW. They are protecting contracts for things like starting a family and other stuff. It is no coincidence that the likes of Millie Elliott and Evania Pelite are having kids within their NRWL contracts. This attention to player welfare is going to be a huge drawcard over time for the women's game. Organisations like the ARU are a million miles from this stuff.
