Not marque I agree but a solid bench prop in the rotation. Hook did him zero favours when he was here last time
The key question is, are Atkinson, Kerr and Douehi (if we sign him) going to improve the team so much from a likely bottom 4 finish to top 8 next year?

I don't think they'll improve the current team all that much.

I don't think they'll improve the team out of sight - frankly, though, we probably win 5-6 more games this year if one of our halves could kick. Atkinson and Douehi bring that.

The most important thing is that those young players like King-Togia, Stewart, T Couchman & Loko will all be another year older and hopefully wiser. Having those young players hopefully kick-on will be where big improvement comes.

Risky strategy IMO

The hope is that the 3 of them & the further development/improvment in our young players will improve the team.

Also I am sure theren will be another signing or two. Hopefully they will be good signings.

Any other signings will have to be top shelf to get us playing finals next year I reckon.

Unfortunately the combination of experienced players of okay/average quality along with young players with potential, hasn't worked for us in the past, seems like more of the same to me at this point.

Atkinson is definitely an upgrade on our current halves but whether that makes a significant difference for next year is a good question our wingers and front row still have big question marks for mine.

Won't talk about the signing of Douehi simply because it hasn't happened.

So our recruitment announcements are
2 x bench players KF & JK
1 x part time 1st grader DA who we’ve known about for over a year
And to go with that we have a list of players we wish to let go but are stuck with stinking up our roster and we have 3 vacant spots we don’t seem to be able to fill.
If the location and the coach aren’t the issue and the BOD remains pretty much as is then there is nothing more can be done.

Kerr has had a couple of years of Wayne, he’ll come back a better footballer than when he left.
2/3 years Kerr and AD at say $850k pa between them makes sense vs JDB at $500k pa plus for 2026 probably only

we needed longevity in some key areas ie beyond 12months

Plus Egan was already going into the middle in a couples games and his work rate and tackle control was amazing for a young NRL player. Beyond his years in anticipation and execution. Quite clinical ….. especially in that after 20min period of the game when the faster agile middles are really flourishing again in the faster paced NRL officiating

Is Kerr an upgrade of Lawrie & RFM? YES.

Is Kerr an upgrade on Klemmer? Because I don’t think you can have both in the same 17..

Surely this means Lawrie is done?

only having 3 spots in our 30 for 2026 is a risk and need to hit our next few signings..

I did read Rava is a 2026 loss (does this mean he’s on loan again at Souths)??? Anyone have info on this?
I doubt it as Souths have just signed Ed Kosi from the Warriors.

DA has just started.
It's still early August.
Nov 1 is still ~ 3 months away.
Current Alpha props on the market = 0
Current offers for Cake = 0
Rava will return to us in '26
Current offers for Rava = 0

AD is a 25% chance - and we are utilizing TPA's here to help getting it done (yes tpa's, sort of like a Ripley's moment).

Kerr is a reasonably good investment. He's a far better player than when he left us. He's also a good cultural fit.
We are looking for an outside back, some currently on the market can run fast but couldn't tackle a sock puppet.
