Sharks went ok but the Roosters still suck

Roosters are a hot and cold outfit.

Flashy stuff a few weeks back was good to watch. But they've got the same knock on them as Penrith in 2025. They aren't very consistent. They floundered in the big match when it mattered most.

Difference with us is we have that juicy big game DNA and gears like no other.

Roosters issue is they can't grind. They need an unsettled defence to do the flashy stuff.

They feel like the same football team since 2020.

If Penrith don't exist then I'm still not sure they win a comp 2020-2025. I don't think they've got the right style for the game at the moment. When they are on they are fun to watch.

The Roosters have been horribly disciplined in both their game management and infringements.

Walker has all the tricks in the book, however he wants to use them on tackle two in his own half rather than build fatigue in the opposition.

They resolved the pop gun kicking game by bringing in Savala but the pressure got to him in the second half and he only kicking thirty metres on the full.

I'm convinced finals pressure really gets to kickers. In the GF last year Melbourne only landed one cross field kick where they wanted and Walker struggled badly on Saturday.

I'm not sure you are remembering the Melbourne game correctly. At Commbank I sit around the 20m sideline on the South Eastern end (Bay 113) so I had a great view of it.

After the Harry 'Milkman' performance we had numerous opportunities in very good field position and we fluffed it up quite badly. We got a full set about 35 metres out after Casey gathered a Melbourne charge down, and did nothing with it. Kenny, Nathan and Dyl were very poor.

The milked shot we made, we had another shot after that too. That is 2 clutch FG attempts

We need Blaize and Dyl practicing drop goals.

If a quick play the ball isn't available then Cleary passing to a second kicker creates room as the defence sells out.

That is the issue with getting a shot every time but we get to the posts

Broncos news.

Billy Walters out for the season.

Reynolds fit for Prelim.

Hunt/Reynolds halves. Mam might come back in.

Paix made some shocking decisions at dummy-half yesterday. They might be tempted to move Hunt there. But they've looked pretty good with Walsh firing shots and the others staying out of the way.

Having so many options may prove their downfall.

I think they move Hunt to 9, but Reynolds coming back in might upset the ship also... Walsh has been calling the shots basically, if Reynolds comes back, he's not going to get the same type of freedom..

So agree with you there! Lets hope anyway!

Good Billy is out, this forum tempted fate acting like he wasn't good enough to be our 14 (when he's better than our 9).

The Sexton kick out on the full changed the momentum. It was all Melbourne after that. Relentless pressure. You knew they would eventually get that try.

The Mann and Kikau lapses were done under pressure. In Kikau's case desperation.

If the Dogs had a 7 with competent game management. They would have won last night.
Cleary would have at least had his runners onside on the last tackle trailing by 2 with time running out. Still I think Sexton should have given it to Galvin.

Better than Mitch? Nah, Mitch is our pocket destroyer and owns the ruck. He is a big loss for them though, he was in good form.

Ball in hand, Billy Walters is a significantly better player than Mitch Kenny. Name one thing that Mitch does better offensively.

Passing out of Dummy half? No.
General passing? LOL no, Billy has the general passing of a good (not great) half.
Decision making? Again Billy has halves level decision making.
Kick Game: No Contest - with the risk of sounding like a broken record, Billy has a halves like kicking game. He has kicked 40/20's before!
Dummy Half Runs: Billy.
General Running: Billy.

Where Mitch has Billy covered is defense, toughness and fitness, where he'd win every category.

For our team with our style, Mitch is a better fit, but in most other teams Billy would be preferred over Kenny.

Nice post with a touch of praise for our own Mitch Kenny and a lot of praise for the hated Broncos player.

All moot points now. The Broncos player is now looking like it's all over for the season so I guess Mitch is better all round now...

Compare apples and oranges and your gonna find differences.

Mitch can just count his rings.

I think Billy Walters has surprised everyone. He is a handy footballer. But the bloke is 31 turning 32. He hasn't got long left.

Mitch Kenny is 4 years younger. Has been around our system for yonks. He is cheap and rock solid defensively. That last part is our strength and I wouldn't be trading that.

We do need a solution for a backup 9 next year. I'd opt for youth

Four years ago Walters was Schneider tier for his on field play.

He's now a handy first grader but only has a NRL career due to being selected by his father.

Billy would be an unbelievable addition to our squad. He would instantly be our #14 since he can cover hooker and both halves, possibly even centre at a pinch. He is far better than any of our bench halves/utilities over the last 5 years. Great squad cover as well for injuries and Rep season.

But yeah, 30+ with an ACL injury and unknown recovery would make it risky for any team to acquire him. I doubt he'd want to move from the Broncos and even if he did, I think his asking price would be too much. Our bench halves have historically all been on close to minimum deals.

I am going to disagree here. I thought he was very handy even early in his NRL career. Yeah, he had some rough edges but it was clear that if he improved as players generally do with experience that he'd make it.

BS on the other hand is an imposter who has played 1 1/2 good games at NRL level but has otherwise basically been trash.
