Season 2026

The Dragons are making moves to bolster their backline with interest in signing former Queensland State of Origin winger Phillip Sami, while also pinching a talented Panther.

With the departure of wingers Corey Allen and Mikaele Ravalawa from their roster for next season, St George-Illawarra are on the hunt to replenish their outside backs.

Sami, who has been given permission to negotiate with rival clubs by the Gold Coast, has appeared on the Dragons radar.

The 28-year-old, who played two games for the Maroons during the 2020 State of Origin series, has featured in 142 NRL games and scored 71-tries.

He enjoyed a strong year in an otherwise poor 2025 season for the Gold Coast, chosen in 21-games and scoring 15-tries by playing both centre and wing.

Meanwhile, it can be revealed that the Dragons are in the middle of a 10-day cooling-off period to sign promising Penrith centre or winger, David Fale.

Fale has spent the past three seasons playing NSW Cup for Penrith where he has scored 22-tries in 43-games.

Belief that the powerful outside back can progress to the NRL was indicated by his first grade debut for the Panthers against the Bulldogs in round 26 this season.

Fale will push the likes of Matt Feagai, Christian Tuipolotu and Tyrell Sloan for a position on the Dragons wing in 2026.

Sami could be a good win for us. High post contact metres means he has some strength, plus he has speed. It would be very pleasing if Fale is first grade ready. Big body and can compete for the high ball, which we have not done in 2025. I believe that both wing spots are up for grabs in 2026. Maybe these 2 could take them?

Is it any wonder this club is in absolute shambles? The coach it irrelevant with this sort of mentally we are in for a long world of hurt.

It was sad to hear this from Soward in regard to his treatment and it would be good to know who are the main perpetrators of this arrogance that they show. He played a huge role in 2010 and should have been treated with more respect. I think that those guys are gone now with Lancaster and Watsford running the show so they should possibly reach out to these guys that were treated poorly like BMoz, Cooper and Soward to get them to at least feel welcome to the club.

Soward mentioned Dean Young and Flanno reached out which is a good thing as it definitely comes from the management higher up that are still around.

Sounds like he wasn’t happy loosing his job.

I wouldn’t ignore the message here, but to complain he wasn’t on a mailing list? And the club personally reached out to him to make sure he was invited anyway? Not a great example to use tbh.

On the other side, it’s sad when club legends feel the need to rubbish the club, which feels too common to be laid only at the feet of the players.

They sack him and the new coach is hardly doing better

Dragons did a deal with Bulldogs to share the money 50/50 when we play them both times next year so they picked a neutral stadium in Allianz.

It almost seems that it does not matter who coaches the NRL and NRLW at the dragons the poor results continue. It has to be something deeply ingrained in the culture?
It has a lot to do with recruitment and retention. We have lost a lot of stars over the past two seasons and promoted a lot
Got Harans fingerprints all over it.
Ask Soward to name the clowns.

Isn’t this an old story?
He comes across as a very prickly character who doesn’t take criticism well.
A player getting a better/longer contract from another club is nothing new.

He certainly can’t complain about being sacked from the wnrl coaching gig as his record was very ordinary without mentioning the amount of players who left under his tenure.
