Rugby Australia to target top NRL talent

From the article by Bullflog Ritchie

“This is real and credible - it’s Super League 2.0. History is repeating itself” one well placed source close to R360…

Bullflog goes on to admit Walsh is signed at the Broncos until 2029 … but says R360 could offer to “ pay out their deals ( lol) or the players could could agitate for a release “…

“R360 will start with the biggest names and get them locked away - that’s what Super League did. “

R360 insiders are aware that luring multiple stars away from rugby league could weaken the NRL’s next Broadcast Deal

Apparently though all the Wallabies players will stay loyal to the ARU … they are prepared to sacrifice millions all for the honour of playing for the green and canary yellow jersey ..
It’s going to kill super rugby which provides a huge benefit to the nrl

There’s already been talk of the super rugby deal being cut

And if they ban players from internationals same goes for their tv deals and crowds

Even if it last for two years it’s going to hurt Union loads

Plus inflation in players wages is something they can’t afford

That makes no sense. R360 aren't even looking at having a team in Australia or games here. Why would they care about our broadcasters?

i expect a few more of this shit articles as the seasons over and journos gotta write something.
Doesn't DAZN have links to the Middle east. Call me a conspiracy theorist but perhaps there's a little collaboration going on here.

It’s a shit article all round …..

The source of the story though IMO ( if real) is suggesting that R360 could be looking to “hurt” the NRL …I mean you could only guess at their possible motives …im sure however World Rugby would love to see the NRL diminished.

Personally I don’t even think that the loss of Walsh, Cleary , Haas and 10 other big names would have much of an impact on the amount of the TV dollars the NRL would get in the next deal …

It's easy to lump Dean Ritchie into the News Ltd milieu of shitty journos.

But he's got a genuine mean streak for the game, and that article demonstrates his motives are to cause maximum disruption.

Think of what is implicit in the statement about the statement "R360 insiders are aware that luring multiple stars away from rugby league could weaken the NRL’s next Broadcast Deal".

Firstly, that R360 has 'insiders' worth listening to. That their main motivation is to target the NRL broadcast deal. That they even have the capacity to do so. And that a couple players actually changes those broadcast negotiations.

Each one of these notions is tenuous at best and total bullshit muckraking at worst.

Rothfield, for all his faults and vendettas, seems to actually like Rugby League and the success it is having. Not Ritchie though, I think he'd get a kick out of seeing the game suffer.

Too much of a coincidence for me that a lot of this was done during our finals and particularly GF week. World Rugby (who has an Australian in charge now) have seen what we`ve done to union in this country, basically decimated it and NZ is the next target, they are two massive outs for international union.
What next ? Toulouse going into Super League, the Pommy League getting its` act together. Hidebound union would be looking to nip this in the bud and Oz is where it`s all starting. Ruin our TV deal and hamstring the role model other Leagues are looking at around the world.
Smartest thing Gould ever said " the paranoid survive" we have to watch this conniving bunch.

And this is why I'm so grateful I was never raised up as a Rugby Union supporter. More than a 100 years on and they still want to hurt us.

Pretty much this, despite some of the "conspiracy" theorists in this thread, "World Rugby" (whoever the f**k that is) would barely even know about the NRL.

As said by other Payne Haas isn't going to attract 100,000 to a game in Lisbon.

I also highly doubt any TV business is going to baulk at a 6 year deal if one or two rep players are suddenly out of the game.

His main point is actually what a shit sports journo Ritchie is …

Ritchie is like Weidler and Andrew Webster. League journalists who are really rugby union lovers at heart.

Ritchie played union for NSW schoolboys.

I'm not taking R360 seriously until they sign WAZN.

Mascord made a tweet a few weeks back which I didn’t take credibly saying they would call their comp a variation of rugby league

If they are paying nrl players 2 million usd pa what will they pay union “stars”

Walsh Cleary and Munster are actual stars compared to the other names mentioned

It is understood the likes of Walsh, Cleary and their fellow stars could be offered upwards of $US2m to make the switch, which is the equivalent of more than $3m AUD.

Given potential tax breaks on top of that, players could earn around $5m a season.
Thats not how tax works. Is the $5m in rupee?

Well technicially any new competion can be called a league. Which doesn't make it Rugby League. It's something that has always irked me. I still think we should have as a sport gone with the french name Jeu à Treize (which means game of 13 which French had to use from 1991). I know the sport is a variation of Rugby, but one that I feel we can seperate our sport from well enough. That said, I'm not sure the Poms would go for a name change to anything French.

Stars where though? They’re big names here in Australia but not anywhere this new competition will be played. They’re paying massive overs for players that have no profile where they’re actually playing the sport.

If the toilet water is not drinkable in the places where R360 is supposedly going to be played we have no worries about Reece defecting. If it is, start worrying.
