Think of it like this, if you buy a national newspaper and go to the back page you will have 5-7 pages of Premier League and European Football followed by another few pages of lower league domestic football, followed by a form guide then a page on darts, snooker maybe, motor sport THEN you might have 1 full page on rugby union and maybe a little bit of rugby league on the corner of that same page.
In NSW/QLD the first 5 to 7 pages are NRL before you get to any other sports.

In my time living in London the only time I saw the southern media mention league was when the Challenge Cup Final and Super League finals were played.

I visited Wigan, across the road from the train station is a JD Sport with a very faded life size cardboard cut out of Ellery Hanley in the window. My type of town.

Could someone from the UK explain the north/south dynamic to me in terms of the north/south dynamic here in Australia? Is it a similar situation where London/Soccer is Vic/AFL and Northern England is NSW/QLd? Is there a similar rivalry code wise? It sounds like Vic is probably further ahead in terms of RL than London - the Storm obviously has a lot to do with this, whereas the London team has seemingly never made any traction in its various iterations. I know soccer absolutely dwarfs everything in the UK so maybe not a fair comparison where NRL/AFL are basically of equal standing. In famous RL towns like Wigan - is RL actually the #1 code, or is it actually still soccer that rules? Just curious!
Pretty much. It’s a bit more complex though as it also has a layer of class snobbery on top of the geographical split. I wouldn’t say it’s rivalry as much as disinterest. Works both ways. Rugby union has virtually zero interest along the m62 other than when it comes to internationals.

football rules in most places. Probably only hull Warrington and St’s where RL dominates football and that’s largely as their isn’t epl sides in those places.

as you can see by the amount of money it has cost to get melbourne a bit interested in RL (probably over $500mill) it costs a lot of money to build an audience in a new location, the game in England just doesn’t have that level of money available to invest.

So it's at 50'000 now, a week out.

Pretty good. Another 10k would be nice but can't complain.

Well done England.
I’d say that we are closer to 51k and will easily beat the Everton crowd of 52k.

I’ve been saying that we’ll get 53k but hopefully we’ll crack 55k which will be great.

Surely the Kangaroos can trigger Piers Morgan into a couple more meltdowns and we can go 60k+
Can’t stand the bloke but a mention of the Wembley test on his show and other social media platforms would probably result in the sale of at least a couple of hundred tickets.
