That was the best of them all. Especially after hearing all those ex pommy players pumping up how great they were going to be. Strauss talking how we fear them now was the best.
The 2006/07 Ashes squad that won 5-0 had a team of superstars that were once-in-a-generation players. The depth of talent in that squad - even with Warne and McGrath at the end of the road in their careers - would've really wiped the Poms' arse in this 2025/26 Ashes.

However, that 5-0 result in 2013/14 was a much better feeling as an Aussie supporter, especially after losing 3-0 only four months earlier in the UK. The team under Lehmann and Clarke's leadership turned it around in a short period of time, and the 11 players that played all five tests really had to dig deep at crucial moments in that series, especially when we came from behind during that 4th test at the MCG to win. The brainfart England had during their 2nd innings that test - combined with Bill Lawry's commentary - is something I will never forget.

That 3-0 result was very unfair on us. From memory the top wicket takers and run scorers were Australians. Haddin had a great series in England. It was just that England won the important moments and had all kinds of bullshit to their way. Broad not walking and rain. That series could’ve been quite different.

England dominated and won at Lords

Australia dominated two rain delayed games. Both were draws and one they almost lost trying to win it in crazy circumstances (England started day 5 in the middle of their first inning. We rolled them just after lunch, batted to tea then tried to roll them after tea).

Then there were two fairly even tests. Durham we had a small first inning lead but England put up a big score which we couldn’t chase and lost by about 50. The other game was the Trent Bridge Opener, very even game which England won by about 15 runs. Nothing controversial happened there.

18 tests and counting since the poms won a test here.

Lost 16 & Drawn 2

I think its the most amount of tests in a row a country has gone here in Australia without winning a test.

I hope we don't give them a sniff now to get a consolation win

Let the drought continue.

Ill take a washout draw to avoid England winning.

I agree that the 3-0 result wasn't an accurate representation of how Australia played.

Although the one test that was a foregone conclusion after the first innings was at Lord's, Aussies had a narrow 14 run loss at Trent Bridge that could've been a different result on another day, shocking batting collapse of 9/77 at Durham after being 1/147 chasing 299, DEFINITELY would've won at Old Trafford if it weren't for the rain, and also dominated The Oval test overall despite a whole day 4 being washed out. Clarke's declaration on day 5 made things much closer than it really was, and nearly ended up losing on day 5.

After The Oval test, I remember having a good feeling we'd do well in the return Ashes series at home, although I'll admit I didn't think the final result was going to be 5-0. However, I saw enough potential in the Aussie side throughout the 2013 UK series that led me to conclude England overachieved and were nowhere near the same side that comprehensively won 3 tests in the previous 2010/11 Ashes by an innings. I'll give credit where credit's due: England did have a good quality test team in those four years between the 2009 Ashes and 2013 Ashes. Since then, they've been inconsistent, selectors showing loyalty to players who were (and still are) clearly not up to test match standard, and have tried to over-compensate for this aspect by talking themselves up in the media to be better than they really are.

Yeah we win that 1st test at Trent Bridge its a different series.

We only lost by 14 runs i think we went to lunch only needing 20.

That little break halted Haddin & Patto's momentum.

The game in Durham we pissed away were 1/150 chasing 299 and got rolled for 220.

The Watto review game where it was laughable he reviewed a plumb one again.

The 'overprepared' line by mccullum reminds me of when I thought I'd written a shit-hot paper for uni and barely passed. Only they've failed miserably here.

Years of planning down the drain & probably a feeling they'd at least win one of the tests Cummins & Haze were out for.

Eat shit. Hopefully some of the crabby old bastards that were in the long room at Lords have seen the result.

I wish punter played that Sydney test, instead it was officially Pups first game as skipper. We’d have gone through Clarke, Smith, Paine and Cummins since their last test win in Aus had that happened.
