I don't get it, are we trying to claim that NRL crowds are bigger than the AFL in 2026?

That's laughable, and makes us look delusional.

They are about double our average crowd at the moment.

He just had another embarrassing loss in court, this time for racing NSW, so he's saying stupid shit to take the heat off that one.

Are you guys still under the assumption you're talking to a League fan..in Caynard???

Strange how everything is screwed negative.. hmmm good News is bad.. bad news is worse.. very strange behavior for a League fan.

Talk to him if you want, debate him if you can be bothered but I guarantee every single time, goal posts will be moved, the narrative will be shifted and when all else fails.. it'll be personal attacks.

Caynard/ Maximus= Troll

Remember that time you pretended to be born in NZ because your opinions were so far off the mark, that the entire forum laughed at your dumb posts?

Will you talk about a game this year by the way? You posted a grand total of 0 times in match threads last year. Huge fan obviously.

Nah mate, he's not saying that.

He's saying NRL crowds are up 20% on last year and AFL crowds are down on last year.

Pretty simple stuff that even an ice head like you could understand.

Its not even the 6 again rule that's annoying many here. Its the change to broaden the ares of the fiel they are awarded in as opposed to a penalty. Its a "back to 2021" type moment, and in the opinion of many, that year it became too much like touch football.

Anyway, it is the whole ruck area that is screwed. Under the 5 metre rule the ruck was unimportant.
Go back to 5 metres and make it 11 aside. Don't do that in first grade make a lower grade comp maybe Jim Beam Cup play with that set up and build it up.

Pvl has singled out ruck speed as an important statistic

He believes faster ruck speed means better games

To be fair though, RL is only very small on the world scale.

So you keep the rules as is to keep the rusted on fans happy

Or you change to hope to get new fans and drag the rusted on ones along for the ride

Yep it is small on the world stage, not sure I buy the hope around change of rule converts fans any more than a government department having a cooler logo drives country wide productivity growth.

If rule changes did this surely we'd have converted every soccer fan in the world by now.

Nothing to do with that.

Anything to do with code wars gets clicks so the fact the AFL crowds have dropped and the NRL crowds have grown is an interesting story that will get people talking, so naturally someone is writing a story about it. They would have asked PVL for a quote or two and he obliged as he has a good relationship with the media.

The fact people get so worked over it is hilarious to me. Its all a bit of friendly banter.
It`s more than that, it`s about momentum and League has it all presently, V`landys wants to keep that ball rolling and having little digs like that reaches someone new and the perception grows that League is on the up and fumbles flatlining. The crowds barometer is perfect, him being in the top 15 most important people in fumbles another.
No wonder sponsors are jumping on board.

Yeah PVL baits the media and afl community when he makes comments like that. It gets him cut through in the media for whatever message he’s trying to convey - which is often how great rugby league is going. It also keeps the afl media talking about nrl as well which they’ve never done before. This all makes afl look like it’s on the ropes compared to the nrl and that league is on top.

He doesn’t care that it looks like afl lives rent free in his head - the fact its been proven to be a great strategy for him as his messaging is constantly in the news, there is a wide perception that league is on the up compared to afl which is stagnating, and afl media is constantly comparing to nrl now.

For example, if he wants to convey how nrl are exploring global round, he’ll drop a snarky comment about how afl can try to find a paddock in India and he’ll be all over the news about it, and not just Sydney media. He’s reaching cut through with his message - nrl are expanding. Nrl are making fun of afl. Is afl behind nrl? Etc etc Instead of just a boring corporate message that no one cares about, receives little coverage or rolls their eyes about, he’s instead over tonnes of news sources as top sport news.

Soccer doesn't have a direct competitor though. Union on the World stage is way bigger, If NRL wants to sell itself as a faster better version of RU. This is the way to go about it

If this year ends with ratings again being up on 2025, a massive media deal, super league investment that has an opportunity to bring the NRL into Europe, a large uptake of Perth bears memberships, a successful World Cup, and confirmation of a global round or more overseas games - it will really cement PVL as an absolute genius and the perception confirmed that the NRL is truly getting on top of afl.

I`m also starting to come to the conclusion that V`landys is a practiser of that art called `manifesting` or `speaking things into existence`. His recent repeated claims of League being number one and of a record broadcast deal being examples, people around you will start to believe it as well.

Manifesting is important because it helps you make positive changes. Saying your wishes out loud won’t automatically make them come true, but it can put you in a positive mindset. Achievements don’t always happen overnight, and manifesting or speaking things into existence can motivate you to continue chasing your dreams and achieve your goals no matter what.

Sounds a bit crack-pot I know, but interesting none-the-less. And certainly seems to fit in with his manner of communicating his vision for the game.

Yeah for sure he often repeats the same messages as well to reinforce it. If you hear it once it’s novelty, if you hear it two or three more times in different publications and different context it sinks in and feels like a given.

And for sure I think he’d be manifesting it. I can imagine he’s like that in the office too with staff.

Pvl is the best leader rugby league has had since 1908

It’s not even close

Not even Gilltan Arko or Quayle come close

If he stays for another decade I wonder where he can take our sport

It will be may past dominating Australia and nz that will be in the bag

He also loves the game which is crucial. A working class guy in a sport with tribal working class roots.

From Covid almost disaster to $850m turnover and $300m+ in assets in 5 years is incredible. On the field growth is just as impressive. He was being mobbed by fans in Vegas for selfies - unheard of as a sports administrator.

"Under the 5 metre rule the ruck was unimportant."🤯

Are you kidding me? It was bloody important. Fact is the ruck was in essence supposed to be a mini-scrum, evidenced by the fact that the marker could strike at the ball when it was played with a view to gaining possession for his team. The only reason that stopped was when they changed the rules to outlaw the marker or any defending player from striking at the ball at the ruck.

He tried the same with nswrl. He should stay out of court lol

Racing NSW and chief executive Peter V’landys have lost their legal stoush with the Australian Turf Club, with the NSW Supreme Court ruling they did not have the power to sack the club’s board.
The club filed proceedings against Racing NSW after the regulator late last year moved to sack the Australian Turf Club board and appoint an administrator.

The club argued that Racing NSW and V’landys had exceeded their powers under the legislation.

After a three-day hearing earlier this year, Justice Francois Kunc on Wednesday morning ruled that the administrator’s appointment was invalid.
