Agree 100 % what did the merger with steelers do but to save the illawarra district from extinction in the nrl .
No value to the Dragons but only embarrassing results and debts from the steelers in the merger.

The Dragons merged with the Steelers mainly because of the Junior nursery.
Since the merger most of the good Juniors have gone elsewhere.
I always remember the Dragons of old (pre merger)had a good mix of quality juniors coming through via an extensive scouting network and sound executive in place.The Club was always up thereabouts in the competition.
Since the merger we have had a couple of good seasons but overall year in and year out the Club has been among the “also ran”
If you ask me today how I feel about the merger, I would happily dissolve the marriage and return to the mighty old successful “St George Dragons”
This is not going to happen so I will just suck it up and be there again next week.

He we go again the Dragons should have a crisis meeting tomorrow at St George Leagues.
And announce that they are standing alone without the illawarra JV with the Nrl they still hold the licence as a Nrl club .
The Gordons can have what they only care about is the service of excellence for running the wincorp business.
Not interested in improving the team on success with quality players and coaching staff .

A full split between St George and Illawarra would be messy, expensive, and probably unrealistic. But there is a middle ground that actually makes sense:
Bring back the name “St George Dragons” — but keep the joint venture intact.
So legally, nothing changes. The club still operates as one entity, still represents both regions, still plays games in Wollongong. But from a branding and identity point of view, we go back to what made this club powerful in the first place — St George Dragons, the Red V, the history, the identity.
