Theres a lack of genuinely good coaches is the issue more than players.

I think that is a valid point that often gets overlooked.
I don't think there are enough quality players in the NRL right now. Some quiet honesty are bog average. Some not FG standard.
Yet, There are plenty of good players (Let alone the young players that don't get a decent shot) who in my opinion, are not achieving their full potential. Due to poor club structure, average teammates, and poor coaching.
Just look at the career of Luke Garner at the Tigers. He would not achieved his full potential if he went to the Titans instead of us.
Papali'i another. Had the talent at the Warriors, but struggled for consistently. Reached that full potential at the Eels in a brief time. Then backwards at the Tigers. Thankfully back on track with us.
Jenkins is another. He was in Ron Massey cup 12 months ago! Some would just quit. He didn't. He persevered and got the right coach.

The Next Brandy Alexandre in Harry Seijka might have fared better in our current system. Junior Moors another. Lost talent. There are more.
Coote debuted far to young and was almost wrecked. At least he was able to savage his career at a better club later on with a better coach.
Coaches sometimes go for the sugar hit. The kid looks good in the lower grades. Straight in. If they struggle, out of the team, and sometimes onto the next kid. Shame.

I am old enough to remember that era. There were 4-6 crap teams at the bottom. Always getting thrashed. Never any hope of the 8. The bottom 2 were putrid. Bringing in @Oldpanther86 point. There were some woeful coaches of that era too.
I am old enough to remember a previous era. There was Penrith at the bottom. Always getting thrashed. Never any hope of the 4,5 or 8. Penrith and some other team were putrid.
Concur with not enough quality coaches ie Brad Arthur might coach Bears. Also have to consider effect of assistant coaches. How important were Ciraldo and Holbrook to 2019 to now success. When you look whose sitting next to Head Coach it sure looks like a mates game. How many existing referees and match officials would you rate. Competent Team management and administration are not in great supply. How important have Penrith’s Management been.
For every Garner, Sorensen type success there are probably 10 guys with contracts who should be park footballers. For every seijka there is Des Hasler who knew to get out. Expansion means we are dealing with numbers plus competency and holistically the game will suffer as competent players, coaches, referees and management aren’t there.

i think there are good signings but then there are also meh signings

i think PNG will struggle to get elite level talent to the team initially - it wont be good viewing for the first 5 years with PNG imo - there will be alot of negativity heaped on them

PNG and the new Bears will only serve to weaken the overall standard of the competition further.

It's interesting to note where the Dolphins initial recruits came from, and the impact that it had on those clubs.
5 NRL clubs supplied the Dolphins 3 or more players:
- Panthers 5
- Storm 3
- Titans 3
- Cowboys 3
- Dragons 3

Panthers and Storm haven't missed a beat. The other 3? Woof!
Now admittedly, the Panthers only provided NSW Cup and Flegg players - but Melbourne lost 3 (at the time) international forwards.

Speaks to the impact of quality coaches, and other front-of-house systems.

Fast forward to Perth Bears. Already we've lost Sorenson and Henry. Storm have already lost Meaney and Wishart.
By start of 2027, we can probably expect to another 2-3 players between Panthers and Storm to sign.

PNG Chiefs I expect to be similar - especially with their promise of tax-free dollars.

In a vacuum, you would have to say that the gap will close. In practice, I think it will likely widen.

Roosters dominated field position and find themselves behind at halftime.

They do plenty with the ball. Might be trying to be too cute. Its wet weather football so a simpler approach in the second half might be their path to victory.

Manly look shiiiiiit.

I had Payten as my first coach to go this year but Seebald might have him well covered in the end.

Dogshit.

Worst pack in the comp by a mile. Desperately short in the middle.

I thought Fogarty would help them and he has. What I didn't envision was just how shithouse their middle has become. Bottom 4 assured but first spoon in Manly's history a genuine chance.

In Fogerty's defence, at least he had a little quality around him in Canberra.

Luke Brooks is an absolute mystery to me. Kept the Tigpies down the bottom for years and now doing it to the Silvertails. What coaches and recruiters see in him is beyond what I see, but hey, I've only been watching since the 60's what would I know.

What you say about the pack is pretty close to the mark. I see a bunch of pea hearts all going through the motions collecting good money coasting along.

The only time they look any good is when they break structure and play footy. Seibold has locked the talent into lanes and corridors with his science and technology screwing with dumb footy players heads. He doesn't know how to get his players to play what they see. Obvious why Chery Evans left.

The club needs a cleanout. From Players, Coaches and head office. Seibold should never have been appointed in the first place. Never understood the media hype.
A one season wonder at Souffs. Which some would say he just kept Maguire's structures in place that year.
The club has achieved nothing since Scott Penn took over. Been erratic ever since. Up and down the ladder.
The roster has been in decline for years. Bad recruitment (Brooks) and bad retention (Jurbo)
Jake has been done for several years. A club legend. I get it. But he is flogging a dead horse. Someone should have made the tough decision years ago.

There is hope. Koula, Hoppa, Olakauatu. And the Kids they have coming through.
Need to a appoint competent coach, and a competent head office to turn things around though.

It was sad to watch Jake last night. He is cooked. He looks like he is playing in slow motion.

Manly have no steel in their forwards. They all want to do the flash stuff and nobody wants to roll up the sleeves and get stuck in.

Just give him a coaching job and be done with it.

Agree. But, as a Panthers fan since 67, I've been bred to go for two teams.

Panthers and whoever is playing Manly.

Over the years new clubs have been added to the "whoever is playing" list, like Brisbane, Melbourne and the arch enemy Parramatta.

So as a tragic footy fan, who likes to follow the soap opera of Australian Rugby League, I couldn't care less if Manly are struggling because apart from a handful of years, I've watched the Panthers struggle for more than fifty of our sixty seasons.

Ive had a close look at him the last few weeks and can agree 100% with this comment.

Not his fault entirely - he has been somewhat overhyped for his whole career. Had potential early but bad management and coaching has let him down badly.

I half get it with Jake.

He is more effective in defence these days. So he is doing a Latrell and not taking hit ups. And he didn't miss a tackle last night.

But he is a prop? Part of the job is doing hard work not just in defence but taking tough carries. Its a standard KPI of the position.

2 runs 17 metres...its not enough for a middle forward.

Jurbo was the premier lock in the game in the late 2010s

Absolute shadow of his former self.

He was he born the same year as Yeoweh which makes his decline sadder.

Oh yes.Manly are the top of my shit list. Don't get me wrong. I love beating them.Roosters are always number 1 in terms of dislike. Those 2 clubs in the bottom 2 would be bliss.

I just dislike talent wasted.Seibold is a dud.

I grew up with my 2 parochial Grandparents, who barracked for Manly. I use to cop it all the time when I visited them. "Who won on the weekend? Wasn't Penrith"
There were some particular lean times.
The 1996 upset win, with the Panther cubs, remains one of my favourite wins over them.
The 1999 and 2004 romps were delighted too.
