32-14, Tigers. Final.

At halftime I set to watch our latest dvd set with the Mrs and I was tired from work. Truth is, this game was always going to be an anti-climax from the high of last week.

CNK to centres Tuaupiki to Fullback.
Warriors 54m on first set.
Tigers with 34m.
Leka offside on chase and penalised when 2nd man in on tackle, Tigers start on their 40m. Warriors inside the 10m 6 more, inside our 20m. Tigers lose 20m on a pass then throw the ball out on last tackle.

Tigers go to early and penalised when we inside our 20m. Start on our 45m.
Gee doesn't want to give us 6 more with JFH not allowed to play ball quickly.
Tigers pull ball out after Laban tackled and penalised 15m out.
Ford gets 6again as Tigers lay on him long.
CNK slides over and scores out on the right, kept legs up to stop going out. Nice last pass by Tuaupiki.

4-0 10mins. Conversion missed.

Boyd spiral kick juggled the knocked on by Tigers into RTS, 15m out.
Tigers knock on pass from Pompey to RTS, 15m out again.
6more as Clarke twisted over in tackle, next very flat pass by Boyd to Laban scores between two Tigers.

10-0 16mins

Appy jumps at Egan with a swinging arm on a dummy half break. Penalty only, start on halfway.
Boyd kick to big, taken in goal on full, Tiger goes to run, Pompey tackle and gets sent to bin!!!! f**k off ref. Wow!!!
Tigers strip DWZ on ground, penalised and challenged, and big time failure.
Start on our 25m.
Tigers lose ball 15m out, CNK catches.
Boyd chip through looked big but Bula takes it dead.
CNK catches 15m dropout.
CNK tip on to DWZ forward and out.
Tigers ball clearly forward and let go, 6 again for Tiger, Warriors to long in tackle.
DWZ knocks on intercept pass on their 45m.
Tigers kick ball out dead, 7 tackle set.
DWZ slips coming into tackle and loses ball 20m out as Pompey returns.
6more for Tigers off scrum Warriors inside the 10m. TSS Penalised for strip, 10m out.
6 more again for inside the 10m. Discipline lacking.
Appy offload to Metcalfe, he seemed to call it.
Doueihi turned Pompey inside out and fends Metcalf, passes to winger to score. Metcalf had moved in, Pompey followed, then had to move out.

10-4 34mins

Tigers drop ball 20m out, Ford plays on. But then no dummy half following Ford and Tigers dive on it when not square.
Tigers bomb off Tigers shoulder competing with RTS, did it touch RTS? Not clear.

10-10 37mins.

RTS knocks out another bomb under pressure 10m out.
6more given, Tigers score fighting for line.
RTS mistakes costing 2 tries.

10-16 40mins
Halftime.

DWZ touches dropout that goes out, challenged as DWZ has hands up.
Tigers finger bends and successful challenge, Warriors 12m out.
Tigers allowed inside the 10m off line,
Boyd grubber Tiger swipe it dead and Laban no touch. Ref states should be 6 more, but he never called, would it change what Boyd did? They regather their short dropout.
6 again for Warriors as Niukore not allowed to play ball quickly 30m out.
Boyd doesn't take a gap, next play kick through scramble as Tigers knock on, 2m out, 10m scrum. Leka stayed down and now HIA.
Ford drops ball in tackle 10m out.
Tuaupiki trapped in goal on early kick.
Shirt dropout knock on by Tigers and accidental offside, we start on our 45m.
DWZ loses ball over line off a bomb. Shit, nothing going right tonight.
Flop on DWZ gets nothing, Pompey straightened up by marker next play and nothing.
Egan loses ball, but Tigers in the ruck and penalised, then give ref a gobful and marched another 10m, starting on their 30m.
Then Ford pushed into the ground and elbow to face and penalised.
Boyd not taking the line tonight, missed another gap. Ford loses ball in tackle 5m out.
Tigers lose ball and let go and make 40m down field. They lose it again but called this time 10m out.
Doueihi steps past CNK and sets up Bula for a try. Boyd with the wrong read in defense, braced to tackle inside runner.
We look cooked.

Ford held down but no 6 again.
Poor CNK kick knocked on by Tigers 5m out.
Boyd not playing like last 3 weeks.
Metcalf throw a ball forward uncontrolled. So messy.
Tigers marker apparently square tackling Healy.
What has happened to our forwards tonight? Outside backs doing all the work.
Ford kick pressure forces 10m kick by Tigers.
Finally Boyd takes the line deep twice and CNK benefits with the try.

14-22 69mins big miss by Boyd

I don’t want to hear about Tuaupiki any more
There where multiple things I could see.
Boyd was gun shy of the line, saw
at least 2 gaps he had taken the last 3 weeks but did they tonight. When he went into the line it produced results.

Outside backs doing all the work tonight on multiple sets.

Errors in the attacking zone.
RTS out contested for the ball.

Metcalf well underdone (at least 1 cup game might have been handy).

Defensive structures gone with CNK into centres and Metcalfe back in.

Ref fell out of love with us, that Pompey sin bin I've never seen before, not like he took him to ground and held him down.

Total brain fade from Pompey.
Players normally start to run towars the centre of the field, because they had a player inside Tiger guy seemed to be heading towards sideline.
Pompey clearly lacking some sleep.
But I can not recall a sin bin for something like that?

Yep, and he holds a lot of responsibility for the L last night. We were in total ascendancy, he does that, we have to try and hold out with 12 men for 10 minutes, then (presumably) we get gassed at the back end of the half and concede 3 tries.

Plus his defense was woeful, Douehi gave him an absolute bath through that channel.

They treat that one the same as they treat the quick tap these days

It clearly wasn’t malicious or even all that cynical. It was just dumb instinct

Looked like a reshuffled thrown together mix where everyone looked out of place. Looked to be confused as to if they wanted to use a flat attack or depth.. Tuapiki was getting the ball flat at the line which doesn't work, though he did his best.

I don't buy into the hype around Boyd, he's made the best of his opportunity in the first few rounds but he's getting worked out now. Has a decent running game and pass but far too often he holds the ball too long and tracks sideways which destroys the movement for the outside backs.
This subtly is what put Metcalf at the top of the DM's.

Metcalf is your 7 and CHT is the 6.

Yeah, dunno about that. Metcalf was at the top of the Dally Ms because he made big pressure plays. But the reality was, with him at 7 we struggled to score points. We were winning primarily off our defense. There were a lot of games where we didn't score a single second half try.

Apart from against the Cowboys and Sharks last year, we often looked lost in the opponent's red zone, even though we might have double the amount of tackles there then the opposition did.

First 3 rounds this year we piled on points. First game with Metcalf back we can only manage 3 tries...

(Yes, I know that's a bit unfair as Metcalf been out injured so long, but still, I'm not sure Metcalf is actually the right player to play 7)

Missed most of the game last night and just watched the replay.

Team was lacking just a bit of energy which was obvious in the kick chase. There was almost no pressure on the person catching the ball.

Team was a bit disjointed and Webster went back to CNK at full back with 20mins to go.

it was such a disappointing result to be honest but a handful of key errors.

1. DWZ drops the ball as he slips after picking up the ball on tackle 1 and Tigers score

2. 5 mins later Ford picks up a ball in the Tigers half and makes a mini break and there is no dummy half and Tigers get the ball back and score soon after

3 Metcalf just cold drops/throws the ball forward as we are trying to score

no mention of RTS dropping or being outcontested on those bombs. Both led to tries.
For someone who has been a world class fb, hes 'entitled' to defuse at least one of those.
For me, these mistakes totally put Tigers in the ascendancy. If he does better on these, we have the halftime lead and maybe a different result.
Unfortunately, the high ball has always been his achilles heel. Last year at Dolphins, he dropped one cold and knocked it on but somehow the ref said it went back. Got away with it on that occasion. Not last night.

Very true - RTS dropped crucial bombs and had a poor game overall
