The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

It comes down to people power. Do people in Canberra want a new stadium? We all know health, education, aged care etc are important priorities. However when will a new Canberra stadium become a priority? If ever. It has been talked about for nearly 20 years and the stadium itself is 50 years old and is falling apart.

A stadium placed where it faces the Parliament House would certainly be unique.. Is it possible for a stadium to be built at City Hill?

Sure but again the ACT government doesn’t have any money and the Feds aren’t going to pay for it.

The difference btw what Ayers was spruiking and what they're getting is striking.

Originally we were getting this, The government put that aside. Then Ayres moved on to the Paceway plan.

This money was already put aside so we get this half arsed version

If the ACT government doesn't have any money, why do people keep voting them back in?

Ask the people from Canberra. I could imagine one reason: their community is heavily populated with public servants. Public servants aren’t going to vote against their own financial interests by voting Liberal.

Logically, ACT is just too small in any case to run themselves. As a comparison, imagine asking the residents of Newcastle instead of the NSW government to fund all their hospitals, schools and stadium infrastructure.

If ACT is too small, maybe the Feds should take control of the territory again. ACT became self-government in 1989, the same year the Raiders won their first premiership.

Meanwhile Hobart, whose population is way below to that of the ACT is getting a billion dollar stadium.

Lol just relocate Canberra they haven't done anything since 94. Then expect the taxpayer to build them a new stadium.

Noting that the fella I was asking attended the AGM late last year and this is where it was mentioned. I asked him the same question about specific location - by the sounds of it, they didn't mention a specific location just the distance from the Stadium. I doubt a DA would have been lodged yet, so not as easy to research it.

His reply:-
"Cannot say where however I thought somewhere further down Cheltemham drive direction where there is plenty of vacant land but I could be well way off the mark"

Which definitely could be correct - but in that case the 700 metres mentioned in the AGM was a bit of an underestimation.

For reference this is a 750 metre radius from Cbus - so if it is indeed 700m from the stadium it would have to sit inside this circle, the red x being the area most likely on Cheltenham Drive:

If you were going religiously off the distance from the stadium - the properties just north of the Tafe, are pretty well exactly 700m on foot.
I was at the meeting. They did specify the location- it the grassed area just outside Gate B. There’s a lot of water to pass before the idea might get legs so don’t get attached to the idea just yet

Of course, as we saw with Oxenford, it's not worth locking in until it atleast breaks ground. The club would have likely done research about the location and also would have had to take into account the cost and availability of land. Its obviously going to be great for gamedays. My only worry with that location, is this a visible enough location where it will be getting good patronage during non-gamedays.

I wonder if the footprint of Brookvale could take that?
Parts of Brookie are worth keeping ie the Arko stand and the new coe/stand

The hill is the most urgent priority then if money allows the remaining two stands. They said Jane try has concrete cancer yet there seem no plans to condemn it and it does the job

No, the arko stand has to go too

The CoE sure, but the other 3 sides would best served by something like this
