Coaching is a bloody tough gig, a lot of it can be right place at the right time and a bit of luck

Outside of Bellamy and Bennett in the current era, not many have a long, sustained run of success. 1 of those had to cheat for a long period to build the foundations for it, and let’s not forget while Bennett has won 7, the last one of those was over 15 years ago now

Hasler was elite for over a decade, you can probably throw Robinson in that group as well and it’s probably amiss of me not to throw Cleary in with the other 2 now, but it still took him a dozen or so years to reach the summit

What does show out quickly is when people can’t coach, the likes of Barrett and Seibold

Webster is in a group that has shown he can coach, has shown he can get a group to the finals, from that point it’s all things slotting into place with injury etc at finals time to get the job done
You forgot one of the longest serving coaches, just shows how biased the NRL is. All against the poor guy and his team.

It wasn't that long ago that I was disappointed Toovey didn't get the gig with us. I was desperate for a 'name' coach and he didn't seem too bad.

From memory he was in the running with Webster? Or Payten? Or even way back with Kearney?

Webster absolutely has his favourites and that is his biggest weakness IMO, especially as they become available and he looks to fix what isn’t broke. Metcalf (and let’s be fair, he has a bigger ceiling than Boyd), Capewell, Ford, CNK, Niukore
Is this even true? Last years purple patch might have been it. Boyd is having on this year. Contrasting styles I guess, with Boyd more of an organiser but without as much spark.

Yeah, I don't know. Maybe Metcalf's purple patch was an illusion and so was Boyd's general mediocrity to this point.

Something I found weird when looking them both up, Boyd has double the amount of first grade games than Metcalf. I guess that could be a reflection of the squads of the clubs they came from.

Boyd is more durable so it makes sense. Metcalf has to complete a full season injury free to even get close to chasing Boyd down.

It makes me think the money and time we've invested in Metcalf has not had a good return when you compare both Boyd and Ford who are on peanuts.

I don't think it is.

Boyd has spark, was a schoolboy freak of a talent, better defender than Metcalf, better organiser, better goal kicker, better long kicking game, the only thing Metcalf probably has on him is his foot speed and ability to beat a defender...but post ACL is that even going to be the case?

We had to re-sign Metcalf last year off the back of his run, we just had to. It doesn't look like as sharp a piece of business now, but who knows where we'll be by season's end or into next year. For now, he needs to go back to NSW Cup and find his feet

I have found myself watching that RTS tackle on Warbrick a lot this weekend. What a moment. Early contender for moment of the year as a Warriors fan
While that tackle was awesome the way some of the Warriors were carrying on towards the Storm afterwards was a bit annoying. If we run into the Storm in the finals I'm sure they're going to remember the little stuff like that.

Normally I hate that sort of stuff too and yea you’re right, the Storm will be filing that away for sure.

But after all the hidings and heartbreak we’ve copped from them over the years, that was the one time I was up for it.

And Roge’s Mutombo finger wag was the perfect punctuation mark.

I don't think it matters this year. The Storm are weak, of body and mind. a) I don't think they'll be there in the finals b) they have nothing to throw at teams even if they do feel slighted. I loved our attitude, if we went too far it was only because we'd taken ourselves to that place on the edge.
