Tim Smith Gornnn?

OK, from now on I'll be warm and fuzzy and toe the party line....
Tim Smith was in great form in 2008 and will be sadly missed.....

He only played three freakin' games... and I thought he was getting better with each hit-out. Still nowhere near back to where we know he can be, of course.

There's a difference between 'warm and fuzzy' and supportive. I for one do not go in for the Spartan tack of putting the children out on the mountain to brave the elements and either survive or die. Sometimes it pays to, you know, support your players?

Of course you can be critical of a player who is not performing, but it's the way you go about it. Some people chose to judge the kid before he even got a game under his belt this year, ignoring what he has achieved during an injury-interrupted three years with us. He was rookie of the year and let the club to the minor premiership at 20. Last year we were within a game of the grand final. But the same old tragics continued to be hard to impress. The kid gets bagged week in and out, scapegoated for losses. And here we are. A shame.

Some might say that he should get a thicker skin, but then they don't really comprehend what it is to suffer this sort of condition, where even the most capable and talented individuals constantly question whether they are up to scratch in their career and in life. It's not easy. You take every criticism to heart. Sure, this is no way to go on in life, and something an individual needs to address, but being bagged out irrationally every week can't help.

Tim's done the right thing by himself and chosen to get some proper help. Now it's the turn of a fair ration of our petty fans to do the same, I reckon.

Look out Finchy. This week you're the great white hope. Lose to Manly and you be the next one lined up by the rabid mob. God help Parramatta's number seven.

Personally, taking all the "I've got xxxxx" out of it, I reckon he's been about as effective as John Morris this year.

What he needs to do and what he always needed to do was put down the bloody beer can.

I hope he recovers and comes back to NRL stronger than ever.
I feel for the guy,he seems to be under enormous pressure with both Parra fans and the media.
You try and do that while battling Bi-Polar.

Enough to freak out followers. Bad luck for the kid, but the NRL is no place for the players who are not strong enough to handle it..mentally or physically.
Tim has come to the conclusion what every fair minded supporter could see..he was not mentally tough enough, and now he has decided to do something about it.
Good for him, and good for the Eels. Finally a win-win situation. And as another poster said. First thing to do is get off the grog.
AND just because people don't agree that every player who pulls on the blue and gold is the greatest thing since sliced bread, it doesn't make them 'bad fans'...just realists.

I wonder how long it'll be before people are calling for Finch's head just like they were calling for Smith's every week?

Im not sure why he was rushed back so quickly. His game against the Knights was so bad, he clearly wasnt right in the head. Good luck to him.

Do you read the quotes that you have as part of your profile Parra Pete? Show a little kindness in someone elses trouble as Tim has shown courage in his own troubles. Sure, he may not have done it as early as he could have, but he has done it.

You have every right to have an opinion. In fact you demand for your opinion to be respected by everyone. All people want is for you to show a little respect to Tim and his issues.

Look, it's good that the kid has finally realised that he has a massive problem but no one forced the booze into his gob in the first place and young or not, he needed to take responsibility for his actions. Which, he apparently has and he is doing something about it. But it doesn't change* the fact that he seems to learn slower than a stick.

Could be worse, could be that low f**k Ben Cousins who's spent the best part of the past 3 years stoned and still can't take any responsibility for his actions.

What I didn't respect with Tim Smith was his ability as a footballer - and the failure to meet the obligations that go with being a high profile NRL professional sportsman with a high profile Club.
Tim has now decided he too agrees with that assumption and is doing something about it. Good for him. It could be the turning point in his life.
Everyone hopes that he can 'resume normal duties' as quickly as possible.
He decided that course of action, no doubt after consultation with David Riolo and his family...and it was the only decision he could make.
Please explain how I don't have "Kindness in another's troubles"
Do I have to weep and have gnashing of teeth to fit the criteria?
My assessment of Tim comes in regard to his position as a professional footballer - nothing more, nothing less -who is getting paid a top dollar to perform at NRL level - and in MY OPINION, he wasn't doing that..and if you are truthful to yourself, you would agree with that assessment also.

parra pete you have some issues as well which i think need to be attended to

Such as?
Perhaps ....having a differing opinion to you ? Not 'warm and fuzzy' enough? Not following the 'party line' ?
I have been a supporter of the Parramatta Club since 1960.
I would be interested in your response.
I hope you are not questioning my loyalty to the Club just because I think a player is not 'up to it'. Surely that can't be it...:sarcasm:

f**k me this forum throws up some odd sh*t from time to time.

There are at least six people in this thread in need of counselling. And at least one in need of a bullet.

Pete you also didn't rate Feleti Mateo as a player and you also said that John Morris and Jeremy Smith should be our halves pairing :lol::lol::lol:
