So let me get this right.

RU is supposedly the national sport of NZ.

that means it should be popular, have lots of fans.

why would a popular sport need government money to be injected into it regularly to make it healthy?

and of course ive ignored the $30 million from the WC losses which the government will cover because its confusing pointint out all your errors at once

They WILL lose 30 million from hosting the world cup... pure and simply because the only source of revenue for a host nation is ticket sales... the world cup itself will still make its usual 100's of millions but the NZRFU will only see some of that if the All Blacks win.... Since the 30 million is under written by the govt, it remains to be seen how much will actually be lost by the NZRFU....

The key difference in this whole clusterf**k of a thread is that while the super14 has had a bad year, it by no means means that Rugby is dying and now the NZRFU is doing something about it.......

I think we all agree that Rugby is the National Sport of New Zealand. Yes Rugby is going through a bad patch in NZ. I am sure the World Cup will raise the profile again and the fans will come back. The ongoing problem Rugby does have is the cashed up NH clubs and the standard of Super 14's. If they can fix these to issues all will be good again.

Not one Football code in Australia controls all the states & territories of Australia and it would never happen now or ever . Rugby league will one day be just as popular if not more popular than AFL (huge national tv ratings, big crowds etc) is now if they have teams in Perth and Adelaide . But it will never be the National Sport of Australia as long as AFL control Victoria, SA & WA .
Who will have thought that there will be no national rugby league comp in NZ and their paticipation numbers drop from 40,000 to 15,000 ?
And if you think the Warriors are going to help then youre wrong . Warriors looks after number 1 and thats the Warriors . You should go to NZ and see the damage the Warriors have done to the local clubs competition since they join the NRL .

But in saying that compared to the NZRL that have $0 in the bank and and losing 1.7 Million financially the NZRFU is in far better shape.
