Kewell's Liverpool days at an end

LIVERPOOL (AFP) — Harry Kewell's time as a Liverpool player will come to an end at the end of this season, manager Rafael Benitez confirmed on Thursday.
Benitez hinted that Kewell, whose five-year stay at Anfield has been marred by recurring injury problems, had turned down an offer to stay at the club on reduced wages.
"We have tried to come to an agreement with the player and his agent, but that has not been possible," Benitez said. "Kewell will leave the club at the end of his contract."
Kewell, 29, has not played for Liverpool since the club's 2-1 FA Cup exit to Championship side Barnsley on February 16.

It is very sad. If health permitted he could have been rememered as one of the best wingers of his time. He'll go down as a broken down player who could have been.

Still, for what it is worth, he has still achieved quite a bit!

he should go to the continent where the pace of the game and the physical demands are not as great. Still has a lot to offer.

I feel for him.

His injuries were shockingly managed at Liverpool.

What makes you say that?

18 games in 2 years, injured at the World Cup,sent to Germany to the worlds leading specialist, treated in Australia a number of times at his request.
I dont know that Liverpool could do any more?
In Australia when he left recently he said he'd be back for the last 8 games.(still not back). And he was injured again playing for Australia not Liverpool.
Its not as if Liverpool have ever rushed him back.

What year was it? The season he hobbled off early in the champions league final?

Liverpool constantly played him that year when he wasnt fit, culminating in sending him out that night.

It was only when he picked up that injury at the world cup he got the long layoff he could have done with earlier. He was never injured so much at Leeds.

2005.(Champions League Final).
They took him off pretty quickly too.
Got MOM in the Chelsea tie leading up to the Final.
Didnt look injured in that tie.
According to Harry he was fine going into the match.
What are you supposed to do?
Said the same in the FA Cup Final V West Ham.
Doubt Liverpool would have played him in a final if they thought he was injured or going to injure himself.
The guy has had the worlds leading specialists involved in his treatment which most clubs wouldnt.
Liverpool dont want to pay a guy 75000 pounds a week and get him injured or not treat him properly.

Your right there my mistake.
We've played Chelsea that often I cant remember which game.(2005-2007)
Maybe it was a FA cup lead up but it doesnt change the fact he was playing and said himself he was fine and he's receivd the best treatment available.

Sad, but clearly not in Benitez's first team plans so moving on is the best option. At least I hope that was his motivation. If it was solely due to receiving a reduced offer well... if he wants to keep playing anywhere else his wage demands will have to drop.

I hope that Harry is signed by another EPL club. I feel he was still playing well without staring before his injuries kicked in.

i wouldnt be surprised if he did play in england but he shouldnt, a side in italy or spain would be ideal.

A shame he'll always be rememberred as a what could've been type player.
