two seasons ago tsg 1899 hoffneheim were playing in the Regionalliga Süd which was the third tier of german football before the structure revamp (currently it is now the fourth with a 3 Liga introduced) ... in the 1999/2000 season Hoffenheim were as far down as the then fifth tier of german football (currently 6th tier because of the 3 Liga) ... after promotions in consecutive years by winning their respective championships they flirted with promotion from the regionalliga süd a few times before coming second in the 2006/07 and in their first season of life in 2 Liga they came second to earn promotion to the bundesliga for the first time in their history

after 8 rounds of life in the big time, hoffe find themselves on top of the bundesliga after destroying hanover 5-2 away from home scoring 4 goals in 13 odd minutes ... after 8 rounds they've almost guaranteed their existance in the bundesliga for another season ...

as of last season this team played in a 5,000 capacity stadium with only about 1,600 seats

whether they can keep it up remains to be seen but for now they're kicking some arse as they move along

of course, what you left out is their sugar daddy, who is funding them and their new stadium way beyond any means that the club would have been able to generate without him.

f**k them.

It's not a fairytale, rather it demonstrates that money well spent will buy success.

I mean, their owner, Dieter Hopp, is financing a new 30k seat stadium for them.

Hoffenheim's population is less than 50k ffs

money spent? ... who in their team is of any note that money can buy? ... the only player they bought was beck and they lost 7 in the process

and what you fail to mention is that hopp was in charge when they were in the equivalent of the 9th tier of german football ... atleast hopp has been affiliated with them and isn't some blow in arab or former thai prime minister using the club as a toy

lol but naming the stadium dietmar hopp stadion is some sh*t

^^ LOL ... forgot the arabs took over citeh ... change it to blow in yanks then :p

vorsah and gustavo were already there and took the option to make the deals permanent ... so from the 2007 squad they've included özcan, beck and wellington but also lost half a dozen or so ... not sure how many games strifler played last year but since he's promoted from the under 19's he's still part of the overral team ... they've lashed out on two players really

yeah he's got cash but he's been there for long enough, he was there when they were nothing more than an amatuer park team but he's only really spent 8m on three players and 7,7 of that is on two players ... for bundesliga clubs that's still a hefty amount

Dont get me wrong, its good what he has done there. But once they got a sniff of the bundesliga, he splashed the cash spending more in the second division last year than most top flight sides to get promoted, and spending again this year.

They're not the fairytale club most people make out imo.

Give me St Paulli anyday.
