what a great idea phil, let every other nations pick australians, then we can have 8 or 9 teams of aussies play off and call it the nrl world cup. no need to play rugby league in ireland, tonga, samoa, even new zealand, they can all just pick aussies with their heritage and we can pretend its international rugby league. idiot!

Gould is one of the most insular people in league, I bet he wants to split all the JVs to have even more teams in Sydney. Then cut Melbourne and the Warriors. Brisbane, NQ and the GC are Queenslanders, so they don't deserve to play. Neither do Newcastle.

Yep, have a suburban Sydney comp. That'll fight the AFL!

Yeah I agree. He is very Australia-centric. I remember watching him on the panel (in studio) with Johns and Voss during those channel 9 broadcasts of the Ashes Tests and Tri Nations overseas. Very demeaning towards NZ and GB rugby league.

Yeah he is very demeaning towards other countries.

Still eddie and stevo give him a red hot go when they are commentating on any english side playing an australian one be it an international or a world club challenge.

In fact even during the superleague final these two jokers were crapping on and on about how england were now going to arse f**k australia in the world cup.

I'm more then happy for Eddie & Stevo to talk up the Super League.
If it creates even further interest and gets people tuned in to the World Cup then they have done their job.
Nothing wrong with a bit of good old fashioned rivalry between the nations.

Well that's drawing a long bow....I don't recall him saying anything of the sort. I don't see how "Australia will win the WC with ease/SL is sh*te standard" type comments somehow equate to "Bring back the NSWRL".

Gus saying that Australia will win the world cup easily is actually a veiled shot at Australian coach Ricky Stuart. He's trying his hardest to put as much pressure on Stuart as he can, so if in the event the Roos don't win the WC, Gus can give it him.

 You should be a Sharks fan. I have nfi whether you are serious or not, but I love the logic:

Gould says something positive about a Stuart coached team = veiled insult so he can bag them later just because he has an agenda.

Gould says something negative about a Stuart coached team = unfair criticism just because he has an agenda.

As for a team of Australian SL players V England, I'd like to see that, my prediction would be England by 40+

An Aussie team would look something like this (fill in the blanks!)
1 - Clint Greenshields
2 - Matt King
3 - Adam Mogg
4 - Matt Gidley
5 - Scott Donald
6 - Trent Barratt
7 - Casey McGuire
8 - Craig Stapleton
9 - Shaun Berrigan
10 - Mick Vella
11 - Chris Flannery
12 - Ben Galea
13 - Scott Hill

Bench
14 - Tim Smith
15 - Daniel Heckingberg (???)
16 - Glenn Morrison
17 - John Skandalis

Probably missed some big name player but theres a starter.

I don't know about that, I think it would be a top game to watch though.

The bakline is pretty good but the forwards are average and would get owned by England IMO. I wouldn't mind seeing it either although if it did happen it would be at the enpense of England playing France or Wales probably so it's probably best if it doesn't.
