Why Manly won't win the premiership

I think people forget how good Minichello was when he was fully fit. I am a Manly fan, so would love to see Brett Stewart in the sky blue......but guys....he won player of the year OVERALL (Minichello) one year....

I read something saying he's fit and firing too...

There were a few tough positions - Barrett, Orford.

People still won't give Lyon a go, but IMO, he showed in last years finals series why he's one of the best current players alive today. Remember, I said ONE of.

As a manly and Matty Orford fan I'd love to see him in the sky Blue. But reality is hes no spring chicken and NSW has to start looking to the future for a good half and 5/8 combo. Dont care whether its Pearce or Wallace just make a choice and stick with him for the series. So there no Prince or Thurstan.. They have the potential to be decent.

And Barrett? Please.. Fair enough if the bloke kills it in the first few months i"ll happily eat my words but i dont see it happening.

Lol, Quinn and Turner are the worst wingers ever to wear the sky blue. Look at what happened Origin 2 last year. Look at the Grand Final......coming up and in is not a good idea coz they let in 4 tries that day :D

quinn is david williams without a beard...
if williams didnt have that novelty he would have had a longer off season and not been near the green and gold

this is gonna piss a fair few off, but I have a sneaking suspicion that if Roosters fire in the first half of the year again, we could see Pearce and Anasta back in the NSW halves...
Why?
Off the top of my head, Wallace is the only other contender for the 7. A lot of people are tipping Brisbane to be massively weakened in the forwards, making a young halfbacks job particularly difficult.

For the 6, other than Anasta, we have Barrett, and Campese. Barrett is well past his best years, and I don't know how wise it would be to be looking so far back to the past for success.
Campese is the other option, who I could see getting the job if the selectors are willing to risk such a young combination. But given their tendency to stick with the incumbents over in form players, he could be facing an uphill battle.

Anyone other nominees? Would Mullen be in the picture again? Should this be its own thread?

Hopefully Wallace gets halfback Pearce seriously sucks and Orford is average doesn't have the ability to be a gamebreaker

Two names:

Menzies and Bell

A common theme with most premiership winning teams is that they possess brilliant team players. Guys that bind the team together. They aren't necessarily the best players in the team but they are the glue that binds the individuals together. Melbourne had it with Crocker, Scott Sattler did it with the Tigers and Tonie Carroll for the Broncos

Manly won't have the same look about them next year and they will sorely miss the beaver and bell. I'll do a nude run over the bridge if Manly win the NRL this year

I love you Moffo, thanks man.

dont you guys get it though.....a common theme across NRL winning teams is that they all possess these players...team players that lift the team. Manly will be a completely different team in 2009 I guarantee you. The main problem will be discipline on the field, they've lost a lot of experience with Bell and Menzies

Just like Manly cant win without Bk, Just like Manly cant win without Monas, just like Manly cant win cause Orford won the dally m and whoever wins that is cursed from the premiership. Us Manly fans hear it every year. We just laugh and put on our 2008 season highlights dvd.

Anasta yes but Pearce is so average it's not funny his only upside is his toughness which unfortunatly doesn't make up for his lack of playmaking skills

While I agree with ur assesment of Pearce, what other options does nsw have at the moment?

Wallace (was he any better then pearce? Thought he really went missing when going got tough)

Orford (Maybe)

Kimmorley (HELL NO)

Mullen ( Only other real alternative. Also inexperienced but has good potential, Needs other playmaker inside of him though, not a running 5/8)

we also have lost Bryant and Williamson from the full time squad as well
I agree Bell will be missed from the centres but if T.Williams steps up it may be all well
and we also have Lyon who can play a bit of centre as well

You would be wasting Tony's talents playing him at centre. He's not mobile enough.

He is, however, big, strong and powerful enough to play easily in the back-row.

Screw you, Fitzgerald and Hagan. We should have kept him and Hodko. :fist:
