You make some very smart and constructive comments re the Panthers when you aren't intoxicated Fibro.

Your 100% right Daz. I remember an occasion albeit back in the 90's when Fibroman and I went to Panthers after work one night. As we walked into Panthers towards the poker machine area he suggested we make a modest investment in the Golden Canaries poker machine. The only problem being the machine in question was taken at the time and the incumbent enjoyed a collect of over 5 grand while Fibroman and I watched on in horror.

At the time, as we watched in disbelief, having our first schooner, Fibroman retorted, "Richo, that could have been us." That was the one and only occasion I can recall Fibroman making any statement which in any way could be considered smart and constructive.

Clearly, the above should be in the Fibroman - Kilkenny horror stories thread.

We had quite a relationship with the famous Golden Canaries machine. Not a winning relationship, just a really close bond so to speak. I lost count of how many times we stood in horror watching another fortunate punter signing the chit for thousands while each and every time we put our hard earned into the hopper we watched in amazement on how often you can go so close to the free spins without actually getting them.

At leat Shane Elford was emptying out the hoppers in those days. He still jokes about it to this day. Those memories are more firmly entrenched into his head than the sweet Grand Final Victory the Tigers enjoyed.

In the old days, being a poker machine attendant was a relatively profitable occupation, hence the need for the need for the New South Wales Police Service to have a Poker Machine Task Force. Many a fine poker machine attendant was later found with translucent dye over his hands and fingers when the search warrant was executed.

On a more serious note can I say a month out from the season proper we clearly have not recruited well for 2009. The sole gainings of Cooper and Elford do not engender great optimisim particularly taking into account our losses.

Undoubtably, there were players on the open market whom we should have gone after with more vigour, although I am not sure we really went after anybody.

Management of the club decided at a very early stage in 2008 they would commit to the junior talent and the upgrades of contracts meant we had no room under the cap to pursue any of the proven quality players which were available.

I have closely examined our playing roster for 2009, spoken to my sources with the club and come to the conclusion our best possible outcome would be scraping into 7th or 8th position. That being the best outcome I have to say in all honesty we are unlikely to seriously compete for the top 8.

Most learned rugby league experts agree the key to success is geared around the 1,6,7,9 combination. Having said that our most likely combination in the key positions would appear to be Coote/Graham/Sammut/Iosefa or Aiton. In comparison with other NRL clubs I have to say that is not the sort of combination which is likely to strike fear into our opposition. Maybe in a year or two time, but not in 2009.

For the first time in my history of supporting this club I have to say I am disappointed at the lack of foresight from within our club. We needed to be aggressive in the open market and as history will show we were the exact opposite. We haven't strenghted in areas which we are clearly deficient and that will prove detrimental to our chances this coming season.

I am not trying to be the prophet of doom, rather just being realistic.

A good season this season, will surely be winning a few more games at home, playing a better brand of football with a view to 2010.

This is Kilkenny's honest take on this upcoming season.

Peewee Moke has actually come across to the Bulldogs, or at the very least our NSW Cup side.

He'll be playing 5/8 tonight for us and v Shellhearbour.

Verdict on him having a crack at 5/8?? Poor reflection on Dog's depth or could possibly be an okay decision? Bare in mind he's partnering Trent Cutler lol.

We also have Chevvy Penehoe and Chris Ward playing wing for us in the same game. Ward any good, didnt notice him all that much last year in NYC.

Don't think PeeWee moke was ever fit enough for long enough for him to pull on a panthers jersey so anyone here could judge him.

I am thankful an unexpected visitor at home meant I had to miss the Matthews and Ball. By all accounts it was not pretty.

Just because we have the largest junior competition in Sydney, doesnt necessarily mean that we have the cream of the talent.

Poachers are out there, left right and centre. Maybe we have to except that although smaller population bases, some of the other clubs simply have better quality junirs, and we made need to step outside the box and poach juniors from other clubs, and let some of our go.

Aside from Peter Wallace, not too many juniors have really kicked goals elsewhere.

It must be remembered very, very few juniors actually go on to play at the top level of the NRL. Of the 16 clubs there are over 400 or so players playing in the Under 20's and only a handful actually make the transition to the top grade, the cream of the crop.

I am hopeful young Greg Waddell has made a full recovery from his knee surgery and fulfills his undoubted potential. We clearly need another top class centre, someone with the same ability as Jennings.

I have only seen Waddell a handful of times, but I must say he is one of the most outstanding talents i have seen at Penrith.

He has the ability to be as good as Gasnier. Very similar in size, pace and mobility.

More like INglis than Gasnier.

Gasnier is a myth...Waddell wont be.

We all certainly hope so.

The Alexanders, Gowers, Jennings and Co come along only once in a while.

We are really in need of another of the above and we all truly hope the next big thing is Greg Waddell.

Having two truly top class centres would surely go along way to kick starting our treck back to the top of the NRL.

After such a horrific injury at such a young age, there are always going to be doubts and the possibility of further reoccurence of the same injury.

Time will tell and I am sure we will find out in the coming months whether he has made a full recovery.

In other news, I walked past Mick Leary's house yesterday. He was putting all his eggs in one basket.

due to cutbacks from the club leary did not have a basket and the egg where not real. This could be a thread gaining tumbleweed as we sign no one and lose plenty

Our club is f*cking useless. Aside from Petero we haven't had a single signing to feel good about in the last 5 years. Any solid signing we make is outdone by the 10 players we lost to make it happen.
