Unfortunately that is one thing i have noticed about our club when we are going well everyone turns out in droves. When we are not people would prefer to stay home and watch it on tv. Also with they way the recession is going and parra always seem to be getting live games its much cheaper to sit at home and watch the game.

JJJ - eh? Wow. Big sample.

BTW, didn't know current bands were automatically the biggest drawcard. I won't mention, of course, that AC/DC is a 2009 global chart topper either. How about, in the interests of your dinosaur analogy, we pretend I meant the Rolling Stones instead.

Where did Kings of Leon play, and what was the crowd?

I never said ACDC were crap, I said they were old. Which they are. The point was you said that Kings of Leon were a nuffy pub band for the purposes of rubbishing someone else's argument when it's blatantly not true. People can hate them all they want but the point is that they're not some small fry losers like you made them out to be. You're just trying to change the argument now from the original point which was that they're no good. Rolling Stones are a better band that would pull a bigger crowd but that doesn't make Kings of Leon bad. That's just flawed logic. It's like saying Saudi Arabia is better than New Zealand because it has a higher GDP. I don't care where and how many, I was simply pointing out that you were using a flawed statement in your original argument.

No. Thats my way of saying the entire parra fan base is soft, a hand ful of Raiders fans created more attmosphere and supported their side better then 11 000 eels fans collectively.

I wasnt big noting our turn out, it was poor. More stating how soft the eels fans are
To be fair the eels didn't really inspire their fans to cheer them on and not everyones idea of atmosphere is a bunch of blokes standing around singing sh*tty repetitive songs.;-)

you're right
some peoples idea of atmosphere is waiting for the "parra *clap clap clap*" to be played over the loud speaker, and then half heartedly getting involved for about 10 seconds ;-)

"sing when you're told to, you only sing when you're told to..."

fair enough.
Only heard one team singing at full time but.;-)

AFL is not the only sport in Melbourne it is just at the top of the pile.

Like has been pointed out to you countless times Storm struggle for crowds because they play at a hole of a ground. Yet still manage to almost fill it up.

I am willing to admit that Melbourne people have become pampered with the stadiums we have after moving away from the suburban grounds and people will rater not go than end up at a ground with the facilities that are present at OP.

Just because they have one more sport to add to the poor attendances does not make them better.

So true.

Loudrat and all the others only know what they know and thats very little.

have you ever considered things from a wider perspective - that people, in general, want the best, and no old, dodgy grounds? Sure some people get a kick out of sitting on a hill at manly....or an old grandstand once in a while, whatever....but you will gain more fans with modern stadia, because generally, they are the better than old stadia and grass hillls....the one exception in the world seems to be quality terracing, such as in germany and a few other places.

Maybe if there is a clean out at board level,Fitzgreald and co removed Parramatta will start to get direction and people watching again

the guy is too volatile, and attention seeking, and simply does not have the track record to back any recommendation to be a ceo.

on his resume, he will probably claim he had some bad luck...?

he has to go.

Aww does it make you feel better now that you have had a go at the eels fans? Does it make losing by 2 so much easier now?

Do the maths. Costing probably $50 per person at the greound, over $1000 extra a season for a bloke and his kid, if you include transport.

Are you serious? If this person who attended ever single Parra game in Sydney was serious, he would get him and his kid season tickets, and bring some sandwiches and chips to the game and spend closer to $500 over the year. Regardless, 11,000 first match is piss poor whatever way you spin it. By next year Melbourne will have higher acerage than most if not all Sydney clubs imo.

I am completely against killing any Sydney clubs, but attacking Melbourne's crowds in hypocritical in the extreme.

Our memberships and crowds NEED to keep rising.

I was surprised walking to the game through parramatta how quiet the town centre and church street were at 5pm.

Going past two of the parking areas (swimming pools and marsden oval) they seemed emptier than I remember at games in previous years. That's when I expected a low(er) crowd.

No excuse for one club over another, but the scheduling for the sake of live TV rather than the sake of allowing clubs to pick the best time and day (and sticking to those dates throughout the whole season) for filling their own grounds. Shocking how much power we ceded to the TV puppetmasters in teh Super League peace treaty.

I posted the below comment in the 'Crowd Watch' thread... and I have cut-and-pasted it here...

Parramatta's crowd tonight was poor - and there's no excuses for that, BUT I wil say this in their defence: that the Raiders and the Cowboys have always drawn sh!t crowds at Parramatta Stadium. Parra's crowds against everyone else is pretty good. Expect a bumper crowd for their next home game on a Friday night against the Dragons.

If Parra play with any heart this year (unlike last year, and after 3 games this year they seem to be giving it their all), I would expect the Raiders crowd tonight to be their worst crowd of the season - except for maybe the Cowboys game in round 8!

Oh ok then, well there's some crackers:lol:

Yeah - But remember that goes both ways.
Look in any thread with Knightmare or Johnsy...

I'm not overly hysterical about it FTR. I just refute (and will continue to) anyone who suggests that Sydney clubs should merge to make the game better and uses crowds for the Broncos or the Cowboys as a comparison.

As for Parramatta- their stadium is the most dissappointing in the League. The reduced capacity sucks, you feel more like the ground exists to accomodate the sponsor's hoardings than the fans, not to mention those fences everywhere make you feel like a criminal who will be shot for daring to even set foot in another bay!

Move the billboards back, return the hills at either end to their former glory and market home games better to the people of the area and crowds should improve.

Just for reference if it hasn't been posted

Parramatta v Canberra @ Parramatta - 2000-2009
2009 - R3 - 11,110
2008 - R13 - 10,195
2007 - R4 - 10,092
2006 - R9 - 10,146
2005 - R25 - 13,315
2003 - R5 - 11,081
2002 - R7 - 12,135
2001 - R19 - 13,303

So to be fair, it's the best crowd there for this clash since '05, and there's only 3 figures better than it in the last ten years.

It's not great but Saturday 7:30pm is hardly a crowd-pulling game when it's two bland teams like Parra and Canberra...
