Relocation

I could handle the CC but not SA
Adelaide's just not a profitable location. If the club were to relocate I would be extremely surprised if it were to Adelaide.

I could see us merging with a Sydney team/Moving to CC/Moving to Brisbane before a relocation to Adelaide.

One team, one town teams are successful.
Brisbane.
Gold coast.
They have ALL the support.

This is a good point, however Newcastle highlights the case of good management being necessary. They are a one town team in a place where rugby league is everything as far as professional sports go. But the club struggles financially due to inept management. If anywhere is profitable for a league club it's in Newcastle, their management would have to rival ours for worst in the league.

Zappia made me laugh when he said the ground and club are 'co located' and went onto to say if people don't attend games they won't attend the club. What when you take games to f**king adelaide? beware false prophets.

I feel both Adelaide and Central Coast relocations would be failed attempts. Adelaide just doesn't have the support base down there, and I don't think the NRL is willing to pump continuous money down there.

Central Coast already identifies with the Bears. As silly as it sounds, they already have support behind a 'Central Coast' team and with the Bears putting in a bid relocation to the Central Coast would be a failure.

What I would be working out with the NRL is a move to the Sunshine Coast. It has a large area to grow from, with a great amount of access to Queensland Juniors. The title 'Sharks' could remain because of the coastal region, as well as the colours.

Ideally in 2012, we would see the Central Coast Bears, WA Reds, and the Sunshine Coast Sharks.

We Are Cronulla Not Farkin Central Coast Or Adelaide

Unlike most ppl on here I am a sharks supporter cause i have no affilation with the cronulla area, so i could cope wiith a relocation provided the sharks logo and colours remain.

I don't know enough to say rightly if a relocation would work or where it would be most likely to succeed. But as for supporting them I would always support the Sharks playing in our teams colours regardless of where they were located.

Ideally I'd prefer the club to remain in the Shire but if it was a choice between relocating or dying, I'd relocate anywhere. The way i see it, I'm from Cronulla that's part of my history but I didn't stop being me because I left the Shire as soon as I left school.

I'd follow a merged team but but not as passionately (depending on who we merged with), particularly if we were the secondary partner eg Illawarra.

I could never start supporting the Roosters or Drag Queens just because they're geographically 'closer' to where my club used to be. The very thought of it makes me feel ill.

Adelaide will never have a team again. You won't go there. If you were to relocate it would be in the Sunshine Coast or Perth. Central Coast will be where the Bears will be reborn and rightly so because they were screwed badly by the NRL.

If we relocated to the central coast, why couldn't they play half the home games at Shark Park?

That definetely wouldnt work - it has to virtually 100% (maybe 1 game at Shark Park) or not at all.

The central coast needs its own team. I dont think Bears are certainties in any way to go there - if we wanted to, we would be in I reckon.

If they leave the Shire..... Goodbye NRL for me.

The way the show (the NRL) is being run right now I wouldn't miss it one iotah.

Farkkkk em.

Next thing the men in pink will be throwing hankies on the ground.

Is it possible the club could play the bulk of home games elsewhere until the redevelopment kicks in?

perhaps spidey but frankly i think we are just too small a population to sustain a team and the founders farged up by locating it in the ass end of woolaware compounding the situation

the founders were visionaries. What killed the plan (partially) was the advent of the `breathalyser' which came in shortly after we moved to Woolooware. Passing trade was no longer an option. And the fact that the only access was by car or foot really cruelled the original intentions. The fact the the Leagues club has survived financially successfully for the time it has is a modern marvel and a credit to those managing it. Providing funds for a football team has, of course, become more difficult with the passing years with more and more finances becoming dependent on sponsors.
If the development fails to succeed, I believe Cronulla club will pass into history. If the development does successfully progress then who knows what successes are in the future.
Sorry, folks. But I reckon that's the bare bones of the situation. Should the develop not progress successfully the the `Sharks' brand could operate somewhere that is geographically more financially viable.

Agreed there Popper.

Particularly the part about the breathalyser. (I forgot about that phase in our lifetimes - I had left the big smoke by then)

And as the drink driving pressure increased over the passing of the years it took down more and more locations of alcoholic pleasure.

I dare say if the club as we know it today was in the same location as the old club then could you imagine the patronage there.

Put it down to "Sharks Luck" I guess.

Cheers

Well the SFS is the logical choice. Short term deal of 2-3 years. That will make up for the declining crowd numbers. Any conflciting use could see games back at Shark Park.
The problem with that is the leagues club would not have any follow on business from games.
So that strategy needs to be ironed out as well.
IMO the games need to be moved away from Cronulla. The people of Cronulla do not deserve a team.
The club needs to find new uses & new users for the facilities.

i would see it as a double edged sword reef

certain games would not be viable for the leagues club possibly due to high end costs but low return in revenue

obviously games agaisnt the stains and manly would be 'must host' games for toyota park

if they were to move a large amount of games short term - it should alleviate some financial burden off the shoulders of the leagues club when the less viable teams play - warriors, cowboys, etc

I put this forward. We re-locate..to anywhere, take the money , watch it fail, then by that time the developemet will be up and running and the Sharks go back to cronulla.
Manly did it, they knew exactly what they were doing.
