The Central Coast has had the carrot dangled before it for over a decade now. geniused snobbery? Hardly something a Novocastrian can claim given the fickleness of the crowds in Newcastle lately...

Last I checked, the Central Coast's tantrums over not getting a rugby league team don't have much to do with A-League crowds.

I meant that they hit the jackpot be getting such a good finisher.

Oh, he's undoubtedly that. But that's why he was 'God' to Liverpool fans.

what are gold coast yellow and blue?

theyre our territory sport colours.

canberra united. works. and there were more in canberra for the central coast and adelaide than the gold coast got.

having said that the skilled stadium is a dead set wallet rapist. ive been there once for NRL and f**k me they were expensive.

a league tickets should be 20 bucks max

Agree 100%. They look at NRL and AFL prices and think that they can charge the same amount, but that's crazy. A newly written play starring nobodies doesn't charge the same amount as a Broadway musical.

Right you are - I should have prefaced that with 'before sydney took their foot off the gas...'

As a complete aside, why doesnt that Barbarosa kid start more?

He should. Its a bit of a travesty.

Ifill's playing extremely well and is very good with the ball at his feet, and often beats defenders. The issue is though is that he likes to come deep for the ball, and then set up his target man for a run off the ball closer to goal. However, Chris Greenacre isn't that type of player. He's a 'poacher', someone who'll score ugly goals, but the combination of the two and the style the Phoenix plays is that they rely too heavily on the cross and it doesn't work because Greenacre is a bloke you play the ball in front of on the deck and Ifill is a guy who won't be there because he's too busy bossing it behind the strikers true line.

Over who? Wellington have, IMO, the best front 6 in the league. Or at least they will once Fred arrives. All the same, he's not getting near Greenacre or Ifill's spots.

I don't think they do. They're certainly not consinstently cohesive. We've struggled to get the ball in the back of the net. The midfield as in central midfielders are too static, Lia and Brown are both box to box players with little creativity (maybe a Diego or Fred would work well in this capacity instead), Daniel is a little bit slow on the left but great technically (maybe Ifill could play here as he prefers to play deeper it seems), and Bertos... well he's good, but he probably needs to read Greenacre a lot better and instead of whipping in head high crosses where Greenacre is horribly out 'heighted' against the centre halfs in this competition, Bertos needs to work on threading it more along the ground to get Greenacre poaching. They're playing Greenacre as a target man, which he most definitely is not.

Is that why they're third from the bottom, and, if it wasnt for the GC match (which looks like an abberation after their first half against Sydney), they'd be averaging less than a goal a game.....

I wouldn't call the GC match an abberation. The Phoenix are on a 12 match unbeaten run at home and have dominated most of those games.

I said it 'looked' like an abberation after their first half against Sydney were, tbh brutally honest, they were dire.....

Hey I know, I'll just arbitrarily disregard one of their games because it hurts my argument!

Since Lia replaced the useless McKain they've looked a lot more potent.

Being second in the league in goals scored probably helps my case, too.

Second with a couple of other sides.

It's a valid point though, up to that GC game they were getting less than a goal a game. Sorry Bumble but I'd prefer to rate teams that have been putting it in the net more consistantly.

I reckon there's three or four sides better served in the midfield and up front than wellington.

Melbourne. Gold Coast. Sydney. Wellington's 'front 6' arent as good as those sides IMO, they'd give celtics front 6 a run though ;-)

sigh...matt simon could get a start for celtic these days.

That's the thing though, there isn't really a team that scores frequently and consistently because it's a very low scoring league. 23 goals in 14 games is the best return for any team in the league...which is simply not good enough.(i think it's 23 if not it can't be many more than that)n

Quality strikers have always beens problem in the league tbh. This year though, the quality is the best it's been - so maybe the defence is better?

Perth have got Branko Jelic who played in the Bundesliga last year, melbourne go ok with archie, sydney starting to look much better with the two B's up front, Fowler up North, smeltz at GC etc

Yeah I don't understand it either - I don't rate many A-League defenders, so it's confusing indeed.

Bit sensitive today Timmah?

On topic, report in the herald today was talking about a crowd of 8,000 tonight.

Perhaps there's life in this club yet....

I'd prefer a 10-team comp. Sink GCU and bring in Melbourne Heart.

Brilliant idea, Clive. Capping crowds at 5000 is the best possible way to boost crowds toward an average of 10,000. It's reminiscent of Cartman's 'You can't come' strategy where he bought a theme park and advertised that nobody was welcome. Then, he allowed a few people in at a time and created massive interest.

A stroke of brilliance from the fat man.

Here's hoping he has a stroke of another kind in the near future.

Was just on Soccernet and someone stole your line
