NSW backline 2010

I wouldn't be surprised if the (outside) backline that went out against France will be the one for NSW.

1. Kurt Gidley
2. Jarryd Hayne
3. Michael Jennings
4. Josh Morris
5. Brett Morris

Gidley may or may not be there at fullback but NSW selectors will find a way to get him in the team.

I suppose they all have talent but I don't think I have seen anything to see that this is a backline that could match QLD. More established players such as Stewart, Tahu, Cooper and Monaghan will have to be playing brilliantly to displace them. Not that all should be first choice but definitely in strong contention. Hopefully the talent shines through for the ones we seem to be putting our faith in at this point in time.

If all in form i'd go with

1) B. Stewart
2) B. Morris
3) M. Jennings
4) T. Tahu
5) J. Hayne
6) T. Carney
7) B. Kimmorley

Might as well throw in the rest..

13) L. O'Donnell
12) B. Creagh
11) A. Watmough
10) M. Weyman
9) M. Ennis
8) J. Poore

14) B. White
15) T. Waterhouse
16) L. Lewis
17) T. Learoyd-Lahrs.
yeah Tom Leroyd-Lahrs definitely should be there, but would you use him at prop or second row?

i really think chris lawrence deserves a run. he would now be nsw's safest defensive center. when you add his blistering pace in (we all remember him leaving slater for dead at leichhardt oval) i can't see how nsw can afford to leave him out. equally at home on the wing or center.

1. hayne
2. b.morris
3. j.morris
4. jennings
5. lawrence
6. sutton
7. kimmorley/barrett

the left side combo of the morris twins then the pace on the right with lawrence outside of jennings is mouth watering

he can fill the role steve simpson played
playing both prop and second row
which i reckon is so important for the bench to have
some versatility

Can i ask why so many people on here have Carney at 5/8 ?
He hasnt played for how long...Who knows how he will go..

I dont know why it seems people have so much hatred against Sutton.

Sutton is good but I think he is a better candidate for a bench option where he can come on and be a ball playing forward. I think there are better options in the 6 anyway.

Carney is an unlikely but if firing he and Barrett in the 7 would make a good combo.

Big halves that can run to the line and link up with big backs is the best option in Origin football.

imo its crazy people are picking hayne at fullback over stewart...

yes, he is the form player and a gun at fb, but he OWNED his postition on the wing this year, and as long as he gets plenty of ball (and not wasted like he is in the four nations, he will be a big part of the team dynamic)

stewart only played a hand full of games this year, if he gets back to his form, he is (again imo) the safest, most lethal fullback..

another VERY important aspect is the stewart/watmough combination, they read each others plays very well and every break watmough makes, stewart is alwas waiting in support (in soo 2, nearly every break watmough made he was left unsupported)

ps... f**k gidley

My New South Wales backline for next year would be:

1. Jarryd Hayne - Parramatta Eels
2. Brett Morris - St George Illawarra Dragons
3. Michael Jennings - Penrith Panthers
4. Matt Cooper - St George Illawarra Dragons
5. Josh Morris - Canterbury Bulldogs
6. Jarrod Mullen - Newcastle Knights
7. Brett Kimmorley - Canterbury Bulldogs

I would go with:
1. Stewart (depending on form) / Hayne
2. B. Morris
3. J. Morris
4. Jennings
5. Lawrence / Hayne
6. Soward
7. Kimmorley

If Stewart has a good season I'd have him at fullback and Hayne on the wing replacing Lawrence (outside Jennings so he will get ball).
Tough choice, but I like the combo of the Morris twins.

gotta agree with you there, even as a parra fan i having stewart not in the side is damn silly. Tahu and hayne are going to destroy QLD down that left hand side!

1.Stewart
2.Morris
3.Jennings
4.Tahu
5.Hayne

I think we will need some solid defencive centres especially on the right where Inglis will be running. Cooper and Morris would be my choices but Lawrence would be right up there. Im not convinced that Jennings will be up to the challenge of containing either GI or Hodges.

I am not sure about Matt Cooper, he can defend well although every now and again he does lose out, he just doesnt throw enough at the defense to warrant a spot imo. I think Tahu is one who can tackle and return serve, I guess Jennings if he is in form might let in a try but if he scores 2-3 himself he is still a benefit for the team. Better option than Lawrence or Morris imo.

We finally have a backline full of weapons that can match up well against the Qld side

Jennings, Morris and Lawrence are good young players but the QLD centres are far better defenders, are more experienced and have better halves distributing them the ball. Trying to match their backs attacking wise isn't the answer. The way to beat QLD is to contain them out wide with strong defenders and beat them through the middle of the field.
