I wouldn't judge Hughes on that innings

he has an average of over 55 and he's made a few tons against Steyne and co

Hughes looked nervous, played nervous. Time is on his side however. The rest of the top order struggling will see him escape a little criticism though.

Z-like batting effort by Aust, only Watson and maybe Clarke weren't soft dismissals

Maybe Clark's wasn't? It was a pearler of a deliver, not the equal of Watson's gem, but it was an excellent, excellent delivery.

Pakistan have to bat on this wicket, barring the weather, I still think we can win this.

So...not having watched all day, being out and all, is this a bowl first pitch that we made the wrong call on, or do we just suck? Or both?

But you can plainly see that our batting has been poor with both tail enders leading the innings in runs.

Australia well could be bowled out in the next few minutes and 9 news will mean we won't get to see Bollinger's, Siddle's and Johnson's reply on this pitch.

Fortunately i can watch it on my phone, but no where as good as the big screen!

Phil Hughes is going to have a long and very successful career as an Australian player but he's clearly not quite ready yet. He needs to iron out some technical flaws in his game and one of the most obvious is how to leave a ball. It might work in one dayers and Twenty20's but it just won't cut it as a long term test opener.

Yes he might have an had an average over 50 before this game (which has now dropped below that) but Hodge had an average over 55 in his comaparable 6 tests and most around here couldn't get rid of him quick enough even though he was/is a much more technically sound batter given his vast experience. T

I'm a massive fan of Phil's and i can't wait until he gets rid of the flaws in his batting because i think he has the potential and may very well go down as one of our greatest openers, but at the moment he's just not ready no matter what positive spin anyone tries to put on it.
