Billy Slater on field bullying. A low act

tbh I think sledging someone about having depression is hilarious, and this is coming from someone who is pretty sure he has a massive case of what the quacks would call "depression" himself.

All you armchair mental health experts are geniused if you think taunting a depressed person about being depressed is going to worry them. Depressed people have bigger things to worry about, like the general meaninglessness of human existence and stuff.

You're wrong, it does affect people with depression. Everyone has their trigger, and Slater was trying to find it. What if what Slater said sent Paterson into another spiral and he threw himself off a
bridge? Would it be hilarious then? No one can truly understand a person with depression, I know, I had nearly 4 years of trying with my last girlfriend.

It's been said, but a lot of people here have no idea about dealing with depression or a person with depression. As I said, it's certainly no joke.

I don't understand why Cory Paterson is clopping so much crap from idiot on here, the bloke didn't make a big deal out of it and has made no official complaints. Some of the people on here need to take a long look at themselves and maybe have a read about clinical depression. I've studied psychology and depression isn't something to joke about, and contrary to what some people might believe its alot more than a bloke feeling sorry for himself. It's a serious health issue in this country. I can just see you scumbags telling Johnny Mannah to harden up if someone sledges him about his illness.
I really hope you guys are abit more understanding if one of your family members is diagnosed with the illness

Hilarious.

In my defence, I didn't know exactly what Slater had said. If he'd vigorously attacked him about his depression, then yeah I'd expect some sort of retribution to be handed out. Depression is a disease - those who flippantly cast it off and say 'toughen up' are a disgrace. Would you expect punishment for someone who sledged someone about having cancer? It's not quite the same, but they're both potentially life-threatening.

Slater knew what he was saying, and referring to, when he said it. 'Go cry in your room' may not sound tough but he was poking at a serious condition. I've never thought Slater had an ounce of class and this proves it.

But if someone said to a cancer sufferer "go get some Chemo" I am pretty sure the cancer dude would reply with a "lol uhigh" kinda comment.

For all intents and purposes Cory could/should have smashed Billy at every opportunity he got. And no doubt Slater is part infant, but it doesn't change the fact that Cory let a very small comment bother him. Perhaps he shouldn't be playing football?

The media has really wasted our time on this.

Deadset, that's such a generic insult, I thought Slater said something far far worse to upset Paterson.

Well it would be a generic insult if the person it was aimed at didn't take most of 2009 off to deal with what uneducated types think is going to your room having a cry and being a sooky la la and not hardening up.

People STILL don't get it.

And Paterson still had a cry over it. Mentality of a primary schooler... sounds about right for a Knights player.

Gotta laugh at everyone here saying how Paterson should have bashed Slater and how much of a cat Slater is.

Paterson was right in Slater's face and Slater stood his ground to the big sook who didn't do anything.

Must've been to depressed to throw a punch.

I didn't want to comment on this subject until i found out what was actually said by Slater, now that I have found out what Billy said i think this whole situation has been blown out of proportion, I know Corey was/is suffering depression but a comment like that is hardly the worse thing in the world.

Exactly.

Slater just chose the wrong person to say it to. Paterson was obviously sooking about something and Slater snapped back.

As I said before, I don't really care about the whole incident as it was gonna happen eventually, but if you think Slater didn't intentionally pick out Cory Paterson to say that to then you need your head read. Surprisingly dumb comment considering you're usually a smart poster.

I find this whole incident completely underwhelming.

The hysteria in the media doesn't knit with what has occurred.

If Slater hadn't got on the front foot and didn't explain himself to Paterson, then the NRL would have had no choice but step in.

However, Slater and the Storm were proactive and Paterson was big enough to accept what Slater said the day after the incident and have both agreed to move on.

It's a pity the media have dragged this whole thing out days after the two people involved put the matter to bed.

Slater made a mistake and it was a stupid thing to say, but it doesn't warrant this much attention nor criticism. I get the feeling if Slater dared sneezed people would be ready to grab their pitchforks.

Also, I don't believe the call just came out of no where. I suspect Paterson was having a whinge. I don't know what people expect of players these days, should they treat one player differently because of his off-field problems?

I think now that Broncos2010 has his own thread, we should just make a "Lets all whinge about Slater thread" it would seriously be the most posted in thread on here.

He told the guy to go cry in his room the amount of hype this has received is bad as Hayne making the front page of the Telegraph today because he went for a swim.

I got to agree, Im dealing with depression with some-one close to me so I dont look at it likely.

But the way everyone is carrying on youd think Billy offered him a razor or something

A razor perhaps should be offered.

Strong one must be.

Soft is a game for those who cannot be strong.

Soft the world become it has.
