IMO it's just too early for them. They should be aiming for the tv deal after this upcoming one if they want a chance (so, around 2020). The population just isn't there, there's no stadium (the government will only build it if they get the license, not before. However the NRL only wants bids that already have a stadium) and it won't add much value to the comp. Not to mention that there's a chance it could destabilise North QLD.
Sure they might bring in big $$ from the mining companies but I'd much prefer they got behind the Cowboys and made them stronger.
It's awesome that they have really passionate people behind the bid but I'd much prefer the inevitable fourth QLD team to be in SEQ/Brisbane.
With population, Townsville had more people in the early 90's than Rockhamton has now (even with a bigger regional council compared to a smaller city council Townsville has) and according to the Department of Infrastructure and planning forecasts, it looks like that Rockhampton Regional Council won't catch up to to the population Townsville City has now, for at least 30 years and thats with a high projection.
In saying that The Central QLD bid might not have to wait too long (and be so reliant on Rockhampton) if Gladstone thrives and prospers through a natural resources boom.
I don't think the Cowboys would suffer too much form the Central QLD bid, because I dont think its like that the cowboys would lose mackay to Central QLD or any company suddenly shifting support to central QLD considering that the cowboys have huge support and an attractive sponsorship package anyway.
