Prince - Unluckiest potential rep star of all time?

I agree.

Not to take anything away from Johnathan though, he's been mighty excellent for Queensland since 2005. In fact, his debut marked the start of him being accepted as one of the game's best.

Not unlucky. If he was good enough he'd be there. but he's not. JT = 1
and then Cronk on the bench. his combinations with slater, Cam, GI and playing in the test and four nations.. its a no brainer picking him ahead of Prince also..

Useless post really. You should be able to figure that out by yourself.

Cronk will get his chance at the starting 7 jumper after Lockyer retires... with Thurston moving to 5/8

Brett Kimorley..

Had to sit behind Joey (and that almost blocked out the sun with that arse :)) that was at all levels - Aus, NSW, Country Origin and Newcastle Knights.

What other possible rep star had to leave his local club to get into first grade and then had the same player blocking his rep career as well.

Now he has to sit behind JT for Aus even in his twilight years

Pffft.

Kimmorley had more than enough opportunities to impress and he simply wasn't good enough in the Sky Blue.

The Green and Gold on the other hand...

Kimmorley was halfback many times when Johns had to make do with the 9 jersey. Johns was even on the bench behind him and Toovey for a while.

Try Des Morris, one of the Queensland selectors. If he had played in Sydney instead of with the East Brisbane club, he would have played many times for Australia. He refused several offers from big spending NSW clubs to stay in Brisbane. His brother Rod of course went to Sydney and played many games for Australia.

If you want an idea what type of player he was, look at Matt Gillett ... big, rangy with a great offload.

Back then the NSW bias was past a joke and Des never got close to being selected despite great performances at club level for years on end - and I guess that's why he's a logical choice for Queensland selector - ha ha.

Then when they did pick him they conjured up a heart murmur... friggin' woeful for Queenslands best ever second row... and I'm a Wests man.

Yes I supported the mighty Wests Panthers as well. Big shame they are no more. I always wondered why Rod Morris played so many games for Australia, yet his brother Des didn't ... when it was painfully obvious who was the better player.

As mentioned ... that makes Des the perfect selector for Queensland ... and he continues to do a fantastic job.

When was Joey on the bench to Kimorley?

Joey played hooker to allow Toovey the 7 jumper but can't remember him being played off the bench for Kimorley and Toovey (unless it was when he was coming off injury or something like that)

When Joey was playing hooker Kimorley was sitting in the Knights Reggies and then in the Mariners

Game 2 2000 - 7. Kimmorley, 9. Toovey, 14. Johns
Game 3 2000 - 7. Kimmorley, 9. Toovey, 14. Johns

So only those two matches but I'm pretty sure there was a few Kangaroos games as well.. just can't find the stats.

Good find,

Joey was injured the first quarter of the 2000 season and Leo Dynever was the Knights half back until Joey returned (and I think from memory it was a knee injury which took him a bit of time to get confidence back)

Personally I think Lockyer's decision to play on this year was a very selfish error in judgement. He's nowhere near as good as he used to be, and he has been a passenger for the last two Origin series. He's there because he's the captain and because of his reputation, definitely not on form.

The sad thing about Prince is that he'll only be around for another few years, and Cronk is being groomed as Lockyer's successor.

Cronk is a good player, but he is NOT a clutch player - he's always had a great team around him. I've seen him play two games with Cameron Smith there - the 40-0 grand final loss to Manly and two weeks ago when the Storm were smashed by the weakest Broncos lineup I've seen in the past 5-10 years.

6. Thurston
7. Prince

14. Cronk

That is a FAR better lineup IMO, and Prince has waited long enough.

I think we still need Lockyer there. Sure he hasn't been great this year for the Broncs, but he had a good game for the Kangaroos and a great match in the big game last week vs the Titans. He provides stability and direction. Plus leadership, he is the captain. He'll step up with good players around him.

Prince had his chance in 2004, and he couldn't cement his place in the line up with Thurston coming in.

Have you actually watched Lockyer play this year?

He's been in some great form and I believe playing for Aus. was one of the best things he could've done for himself.

Scott Prince has played for his state, so imo that makes him less unlucky than others.

Go back to the 80's-90's and you have fullback Michael Potter for the Bulldogs and Dragons, he was player of the year in the mid 80's and ended up being a well respected captain but had the likes of Jack, Shearer and Belcher in front of him.

Mario Fenech is another.

Are you mentally geniused? It's not possible for two exceptional players to be around at the same time, and by virtue of that, make one of them unlucky?
