For total accumulated influence over 15 years ... (talking positive influence here), there is now no contest.

Lockyer ... total team man ... makes other look great ... humble leader ... orchestrates with precision and skill ...

Daylight and then Johns.

Cue Johns worshipers.

Absolutely no question. As a player and representative of the game there has probably never been anyone in his league. A once in a lifetime player.

Not much between them as footballers but you can make a compelling case for Locky given his greatness in 2 positions over a long period of time.

Add the image of RL he promotes and his interest in its positive development, sh*ts it in over Johns... they only really come close in on field talent, and even thats debatable...

i don't think you'll really get any arguments from anyone here.

Lockyer is definitely the better human being and has had a much more positive influence on our game.

Johns was the better footballer. continues to prove himself an unlikable idiot of a human being, though.

having said that... Lockyer was absolutely brilliant tonight. really enjoyed his performance. awesome stuff.

Lockyer is a tremendous player, represents the image of the game at a much high level than Johns, and has had a far more succesful Origin career than Johns.

It still doesn't stop Joey from being the better footballer of the two.

I don't get how many Origin games Locky has to CONTROL before he gets the accolades he deserves from south of the border.

He kicked NSW out of game 1, and tonight he passed us into at least 20 points.

ON FIELD- Locky by heaps
OF FIELD- No contest

Honestly, what did Johns do at Origin level? 1 f'n game (gm 2 2005). The sad thing is, NSW fans I know say the same thing.

Just not LU posters...............and Ray Warren and Phil Gould.

IMO Thurston > Johns > Lockyer for playing ability at origin.

Johns has been a douche off the field.

There is more places to prove yourself then just the "Origin level".

Johns is the more skillful player, even Darren Lockyer thinks so.

Lockyer is a better leader, better role model, better ambassador for the games and has achieved more. Skill wise, he has nothing on Johns

Rubbish, the only things joey had on locky was defence and shortkicking game, id give the edge to locky with his long kicking game and ballrunning, the rest is splitting hairs. But darren has achieved more and that has to count for something

nailed it

i think your comment 'makes others look better' is where JOhns comfortably has Lockyer covered. Got some very average Newcastle sides (as seen after his retirement) into finals, to some big wins.

All round IMO it's clear cut, Johns is a better player. Better kicker, passer, playmaker (which is no slight on Lockyer, he is a sensational player as well) and tackled like a second rower. But off the field and as a leader Lockyer is a much better person.

And again, look at the sides Darren ahs had around him at brisbane compared to Johns at Newcastle. They're both excellent players in their own right, but it certainly helps when you have a decent side as well as extreme skill.
