I'm not selling this, but I got shocked at the price!

I scored a westmont penfolds jersey with the number 5 on the sleeves and back for 50 bucks. Was at a blokes house fixing his foxtel and i saw it hanging on a coathanger over a window for f**k knows what reasons. I commented on it playing the daft approach asking if he'd wanna flog it off. He said he didnt know why he even kept it and asked how much? Ohh... Hows a fitty sound? Your on he said. One word...... Score!!!

"This jersey has the ARL badge NOT the NRL badge so I am assuming it is pre-1997. Also, there is no mention of Dragons anywhere on it. (I don't know a lot about rugby - sorry)."

Gee for someone who doesn't know a lot about Rugby, you sure know when the ARL was taken over by the NRL.......

I would kill for a 1991 or 1992 Penfolds Wines sponsored jersey......the one's with the white stroke around the lettering.
They were awesome. Looked great in muddy games.

Best jersey in the business.. I have the number 7 on mine. Love the numbering with the white shadow.

My Penfolds collection:

I have my original number 7 with the white outline circa 1992/3 - Classic brand

I have one I picked up of eBay with number 7 (and on the sleeves) Canterbury brand but the numbers aren't the old curved style and no white outline

I have my piece de resistance procured last week - player worn number 24 Westmont brand, curved style numbers (and on the sleeves). Likely mid to late 80's.

And no, I couldn't part with any of them....

That auction definitely dodgy. And note that jersey isn't even the real deal. I saw the one St Linnane bought last week. Very nice. I love my 93 Westmont even though most of the lettering is now dead.

There was another 92/93 with a #11 on the back on ebay last week. Still spewing I didn't buy it.

I want a 96 Newmans jersey with the 75th anniversary badges on the sleeves as mine disappeared years ago in fishy circumstances. Was my favourite as was short sleeved and fitted well.

Looks the real deal to me Drew. Would like a better look at the number on the back than I can see on my mobile.

The one thing that looks out of place is the little bit of the v under the Penfolds on the front. I am not sure we had that with a NSWRL badge (1984 onwards). Prior to 1984 it was the NSWRFL on the badge. I would need a history buff (Willow etc) to confirm.

Yeah, the goatee looks like it's been stuck on. Not sure why...

The reason I say it looks dodge is there's 3 or 4 jerseys by the same buyer on there for roughly the same price and that always makes me nervous.

eBay is one of those places where dipping your toe can see it nipped off quite quickly if you put it into the wrong pond.

I don't know about 'dodge' Drew-Sta, that looks like something Mick Beattie would have ran around in:D

The little V under the sponsorship was how the match jersey looked when we began our association with Penfolds. I'm pretty sure we were the first team to put that size sponsorship on our jerseys. I might be wrong, but didn't Penfolds 'opt out' when the Super League poo started to hit the fan. They must have been our main sponsor for more than 15 years??

The '77 jersey looked superb with the old crest, the Westmont boomerang, the shorts with the red trim and a Westmont boomerang on the bottom of the left leg, if that makes sense.

As for why no-one made a remake of the 80's-90's St George jumper, I remember talking to Classic Sportswear when they released the Retro jerseys years ago. The problem isn't Classic, as they would make the jersey tomorrow if they could. The problem is Fosters Group (now Treasury Wines). They will not give Classic or the NRL permission to use their trademark - Penfolds Wines

It seems strange they wouldn't want to allow new jersey's advertising their brand to be made.

When it costs them nothing.

i recently scored a 91 or 92 westmont NSWRL Penfolds jersey in perfect condition from a family member of snoopy collins. delivering papers to his house when he said he had something i might like. when he walked out with this thing of beauty, in pristine order, i f.cking well flipped. GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT. The 2010 Premiership, hopefully, will one of those. enjoy the finals everyone.
