TS

Spot on mate just booked my ticket.

As an out of towner I plan on picking up my return ticket from Taj, then get the train out. This way the easiest way back to the club would be the bus. No issues trying to get a taxi, or fighting to get on the train. Win win for mine, $30 one way trip, given the night it will be pretty good value.

Bugger that the bus is a decent walk from the oval and club. Makes it harder for people with young kids. I don't mind paying $30 but it would be nice to be picked up and dropped off closer.

Guess they don't want half the GF crowd parking at or near the club. Might have to look at other options.

Willow, what do you care, you'll be watching it at the Virgin Blue Terminal on the GC.

It would be easier methinks to get the free Gov Buses to the corner of Princes Hwy Blakehurst and King Georges Rd and walk the 1.9km. (approx 35 mins according to GoogleMops).

Head southeast on King Georges Rd toward Princes Hwy
71 m
2. Sharp left at Princes Hwy
500 m
3. Turn right at Currawang St
10 m
4. Turn left at Princes Hwy
1.9 km
5. Turn left at Jubilee Ave
400 m

The way I figure it, it'll take less than hour by train and drop you off at Jubilee's doorstep.

How long would a bus take through traffic?

Willow, with those times does that mean missing out on the presentation and lap of honour?
Good point. Might not leave till about 7:30pm?

I only copied the first 5 options to give an idea. I'd say the same scheduling will continue for while longer.

Here's the CityRail site's (advanced) search area: http://www.131500.com.au/plan-your-trip/trip-planner

Type in Olympic Park (Homebush) and Carlton. Select times, and tick trains only.

This is what you get from 7:30:

Option Depart Arrive Travel time Transport
1. 7:35pm 8:28pm 53mins (Change at Redfern and Hurstville)
2. 7:51pm 8:36pm 45mins (Change at Redfern only)
3. 8:05pm 8:58pm 53mins (Change at Redfern and Hurstville)
4. 8:21pm 9:06pm 45mins (Change at Redfern only)
5. 8:41pm 9:28pm 47mins (Change at Redfern and Hurstville)

If you catch the 7:51pm train from Olympic, you have one change at Redfern and arrive at Carlton at 8:36pm.

Or justbite the bullet and fork out the $30 for the club organised bus.

for a family of four thats 120..... you could get two cabs for that. The point is, its a gouge, and the grand final already has public transport costed into it.

So who gets this stupid situation in the neck? The fans.

Oust Doust.

Johnsy, I intend on making a call to the club today about busses. I'll let you know if any details change, which is possible given the late organisation of it all.

I just feel more confident with the trains. It'll take one hour tops, will cost only $4.60 for a single adult.
(Fares: http://www.cityrail.info/tickets/fare_calculator.htm )

Busses could be stuck in traffic.

It's about 400m walk from the ground to Olympic Station, and at Carlton Station it's a 200m walk to Jubilee, plus another 200m to the Taj. Beats the crap out of walking with Rexxy for 1.9 kms (35 minutes on two good legs).

You know it makes sense. ;-)

What are the chances of getting on that train? I'd imagine there will be thousands trying to get on the same train, it could be quite a line. Another bonus is I don't pay for public transport (train/ferry) etc Australia wide, handy indeed. Especially when you get the Train from varsity lakes to Brisbane every working day.

Not sure what the best option is, I'll get the bus out, then I can go either way back to the Taj.

Well they're leaving roughly every 15 minutes. I'd say there'll be an initial rush of Roosters supporters out of the ground so the first train will be pretty empty.

But after that it'll be a steady stream. Sure it'll be a crush at first but they seem to have a lot of services running. I'll be aiming for the 7:51pm departure which is almost an hour after fulltime, and only has one train chnage at Redfern.

A person at the club advised that busse will be leaving Scarborough park at 12:30, not sure about later services (if any)?

I would assume so either Kogarah or Hurstville (it stopped at hurstville for the direct bus to the Premlinarly final).
The reason they have direct buses from Miranda is because shire kids are not aware of suburbs other than Cronulla, Engadine, Miranda, Gymea, Carignbah, Kirrawee etc. So this simplifies and makes it easier for them I am guessing.

Engadine? Lol yuck.

Shire stops at Gymea

30 bucks for the bus

Seems dumb to do that when you can get free transport on the other buses and on trains.

We're just going to park at the Leagues club and walk down the road where event buses will be leaving from Blakehurst
