I hope no one adds today's result to brian smith's debit column.

well done brian smith. bad luck.

i could have handled losing quite easily knowing this guy would have been the victor.

Yep. He's done a great job getting a club from the absolute pits last season to where they are now, and there is plenty to look forward to next season with the current side.

Probably worth noting that only the Parra 2001 grand final he would've gone in coaching the favourites to win.

Pfft. Smith deserves no special sympathy. Yes - great result for the Chooks, well done for 2010. Losers sympathy? David Waite in 95 - yes. Hasler and Anderson to salary cap cheats - yes. Smith, nup.

Did he really think today was his best chance to win one? I don't get that.

He deserves to win one, and I hope he does, but I never thought this would be even close to one of his best chances..

Although beaten by a better team what was he thinking not starting Nu'uausala and leaving out J Aubusson? His old fashioned selection tricks wouldn't fool a blind dog.

History will say 0 from 4, bad luck or not.

With all due respect to him, does anybody else get the feeling that Wayne Bennett would have just told the Dragons players to stop dropping the ball and the rest will take care of itself - while Brian Smith was writing on a whiteboard? I mean, really? The game was won and lost by the coaches at half time in my view.

I agree. Whiteboard ffs- that was a joke when at Parramatta. All Benet did was get Fein and Soward to chat.

he has one of the better spines in the league and some decent forwards to go with it ... a good season without injury will see the chooks there or there abouts again next year

Didn't St George win the minor in one of 92/93? Can't remember which was the close game and which was the blowout

I'm sure they were favs in one?

May be some truth to that. If Roosters controlled possession early in the 2nd half it may have been a very different story with Saints playing catchup instead.

Say what you want about Smith being a choker but with St George he ran in to a sh*t hot Brisbane team, in 2001 Newcastle produced one of the most dominating performances in GF history in the first half and yesterday he was with the previous years wooden spooners with one of the youngest if not the yougnest squads in the game. The way he rebuilt St George, Parramatta, Easts and gave Newcastle life without Joey should be looked at before a premiership tally.

Ricky Stuart and Michael Hagan won premierships and neither are half as good as Smith is.

The game was over before then we had possession against the Dragons in the first half and couldn't put them away, at 8-6 we needed another try to hopefully go 14-6 up to be a realistic chance.

Brian Smith will always be a Roosters hero for what he did to this side. Watch out in 2011.

I think he has had completely the wrong tactics for the last two Grand Final's his teams play too expansive without a softening up period. If they played more in the forwards in the first half they would of had a bigger lead in my opinion.

He is still and excellent coach but he has definitely got it wrong in his last two Grand Final appearances.

Not a big Roosters fan, but I really want to see Smithy win one.

A great effort by the man this year.
