Dragons celebration turns deadly

A Dragons fan who died after being subdued by police and hit with a baton was a "gentle giant" who had drunk just two or three beers following his team's NRL grand final victory, his twin brother said.
Steve Bosevski said his twin, Steven Bosevski, 35, and their younger brother, Tony Bosevski, were celebrating with a group of friends at St George Leagues Club at Kogarah last night but were not drunk.

"None of us were drunk, we were just having a good time, we were just celebrating with everybody else," Mr Bosevski said.
He said he could not go into detail about what happened at the bar or during the altercation because he had not yet given a statement to police.
But he was adamant his brother was not drunk and had no underlying health problems.
"He'd had two, three beers, that's it", Mr Bosevski said.
"He's a gentle giant, did no harm to nobody and he's gone, he's gone now, for no reason whatsoever.
"We're just confused, we don't understand what happened."
All three brothers live with their parents and sister in Bardwell Valley, Mr Bosevski said.
Assistant Commissioner Mark Murdoch, commander of the Central Police Region, told a press briefing today that he had watched CCTV footage of the incident.
He said Mr Bosevski was struck with a police baton during the altercation. He did not say where he was hit.
Capsicum spray was also used and a number of people were affected, including Mr Bosevski, who died in St George Hospital early today.
"This is a tragedy all round, obviously for the family, for St George Football Club and for the police involved," Mr Murdoch said.

I thought the first article had an error but it appears the twins are indeed, Steve and Steven

Steven Bosevski left , with his twin bother Steve in Greece.

Must have been confusing for those who knew them.

i'll trust the police statement over anonymous AM radio caller thanks.

dickheads start a fight, resist arrest and need to be sprayed and tasered for the police's safety.... and i'm the asshole somehow for not feeling sorry for him

No, you're the asshole making jokes about someone dying

I heard he had an allergic reaction to the pepper spray and went into anaphylactic shock....

....So even in victory the dragons still found a way to choke

I'd like to go on record and admit that i lol'd.

While I don't know the full details of the incident it just seems like a waste of life for what? Because there was a brawl and his team won? Because he was denied entry? Because police might have lost control of the situation? No one should have died last night. It should have been a celebration for Dragons fans. Now we get a huge downer because someone lost their life for whatever reason.
Just makes me think that sport is nothing in the whole scheme of things. Especially when someone loses their life over something so trivial.

Just a question for people that were there how crowded was it and how big exactly is St George Leagues and how many people were there approx that night inside and out?

So the blokes a 'gentle giant' that just miraculously got denied entry into a club and got into a brawl whilst 'sober'. What a way to falsely glorify someone haha.

This is the fourth incident I've heard of relating to unnecessary police heavy-handedness yesterday. If anyone has any other stories, can they please PM me. Cheers.

Westie I heard of a Story where Bumper Farrell was patrolling the Cross with Detective Sergeant Chicka Moore and someone had a go at the Bluebags.

Well Bumper thought the bloke was having a go at the bagman, so Bumper put the slipper in. Anyhow Chicka seeing Bumper putting the slipper in also started doing the same to the poor innocent crim.

And people that followed the bluebags would always wonder to this day why Chicka had a funny running action with his feet. It was from putting the slipper into prone crims.

If anyone else knows of anymore Bumper and Chicka stories can they please PM me.

Cheers

Have you read any actual news stories? He wasn't denied entry, he was in the beer garden already, and it appears that there was no brawl, just too many people crowded into one spot and a shove or something.

You may believe that the police are all flawless angels and everyone they even send a nasty look at it is a dropkick and a criminal, but in reality police are capable of making poor decisions which can, in extreme cases like this one, needlessly cost someones life. They need to be held properly accountable for that, and the victims deserve better than to be dismissed as clear wrongdoers and deserving idiots.

The police's management of Dragons fans outside the stadium has been poor at best in the last fortnight, in the public, non-roadway areas, the Army were waving their flags celebrating after the game, and the police, for no reason other than to cause trouble, slowly drive a patrol car into the crowd in a remarkably idiotic effort to break the crowd up.

That group is celebrating, not brawling, and driving a vehicle through the group is only going to incense them and inflame a non-event into a story. They really need better crowd management skills. That celebration would've disintegrated on its own ffs.
