I think this is the split, with other teams to be added to either comp...
AMNRL
Aston Bulls
Bucks County Sharks
Connecticut Wildcats
New York Knights
New York Raiders
USARL
Boston 13s
DC Slayers
Fairfax Eagles
Jacksonville Axemen
New Haven Warriors
Philadelphia Fight
Pittsburgh Vipers
Could the USARL and the AMNRL work together? The USARL could be the top level comp while the AMNRL could be the next level down, where AMNRL teams who are better developed join the USARL in future years?
Key problem with the New Jersey Knights name... there is an Ice Hockey team named that. It might be an idea to atleast google before coming up with names.
I assume that was also the prob with the Pitt Vipers as there was already a Pitt Vipers (Ice Hockey)
I'm not sure any of the West coast teams could realistically compete in a week-in-week-out domestic comp. The travel is too much of an issue. The feeling I get from the Seattle Force website is that their intention is more toward weekend tournaments and guest matches against AMNRL teams, as well as supporting and trying out for the national team. I would imagine thats the direction most of the west teams will be taking.
So it's a matter of what the USARL can offer them. If the USARL are solely focussed on their week to week domestic comp, then they probably have little to offer the West teams. Whereas the AMNRL with few teams in their comp will probably have to compete in more gala weekends. Especially the flagship teams, New York Knights and Aston Bulls. Plus the AMNRL has for the time being, the Tomahawks.
even if the west comp starts up it will have to run as a seperate league anyway. there is no money for these teams to travel cross country every other weekend. so ultimately you are going to end up with 3 leagues if it takes off and its a big if due to the fact that it has been promised for at least 6 years now
So to make rugby league work here it's my opinion you have to start smaller and offer something unions clubs do not offer. Playing on a pitch with showers after the game is a start. So is clubs being able to provide transport to games. Offering full kits, a chance to play on a decent pitch with grass in a stadium is another one. You have to start with the basics and then you'll bring people over. We accomplish those things - regardless if it's the USARL or AMNRL - then we've accomplished more than USA rugby ever have.
