Kinda hard to work out how to feel!

Forever in debt to him for the tears and joy of the past two seasons. BUT

What would any other club offer him (Aprat from Brisbane)? Is it harder to win a permiership or defend it. The greatest challenge is right here.

Anyways midday. Is it streamed on the net? Maybe a special news bulletin accross the tv networks?

If, as expected, Steve Price is endorsed as Head Coach i think the club will be making a huge mistake.
It makes very little sense given the previous disaster with Nathan Brown. For me it will stall the momentum the club has gained over the last 2 years and that alone will be felt on and off the field. I really like Steve Price as a person, and he no doubt has a clue about football.... but to take charge of the dragons at his age, with his experience, or lack there of, is absolutely ridiculous. We should not accept it and we need to make a stand if today we learn Price is coach for next year.
Who will come to our club? Forget Dugan, forget anyone. We need a name coach. We obviously have not been able to attract one. Sorry for my rant....but i have the feeling many other rants from many other people will follow.

Gonskis, sorry pal let the healing begin :(

hehe I'm fine mate. As I said his decision. I'm just sick of the medias bullsh*t on the whole in relation to this. It affects our players mentally and just throws rubbish stories into the media.

Okay it's true he is moving on and we can't change that it's his decision and good on him on what it is he does. Yes he made the decision to leave and that's great we finally get word on this.

As he stated him self. He would be there until the "job" is done and he honestly looks at it as being done. Good forms, good players, solid plan and player structure as well as the titles we carried out.

All we can say is. Thank you Benny for everything you have done in bringing pride and honor to the club who has been waiting 31 years to grab their 16th premiership and two minors and a overflowing trophy cabinet from Charity shields to ANZAC and even the WorldCub.

Dont really agree with only offering him a 3 year deal. Should of taken the 5 year option.

when does Bellamy come off contract? Give Price a go until then and see how things pan out.

Bellamy is off Contract in 2013 making him open in 2014 to other clubs.

Anyway:

The St George Illawarra Dragons CEO Peter Doust and head coach Wayne Bennett will hold a media conference at midday today at Wollongong to discuss the coaching future at the club

More to come.

That's per the NRL.com website. Everything says different...I'm not believing anything else until the conference is over and their is an official announcement made until then let the Media Iron Fist cast a shadow over this day

Okay so Boyd and Emmett will go with Bennett
Price won’t get the gig (IMLO) as the club’s policy is to go with established coaches and the Browny foray left them more than aware that you can’t leave the club in the hands of novices.

Father Ted, you sound like a wife. Doust did his best, we got a premiership, the club is on top of the world despite the country be run by idiots who want wreck their support base.
Please include the following verse of Sting’s “Consider me gone” into your next sermon

I've spent too many years at war with myself
The doctor has told me it's no good for my health
To search for perfection is all very well
But to look for Heaven is to live here in Hell

Let’s get excited about the challenge ahead
Benny wiped our nose, straightened us up and helped us find the Holy Grail
Let’s hope that we learned a little from the experience and that the great man’s legacy won’t just be a fading memory

A generation thanks you Mr. Bennett
Live long and prosper!

I have a feeling you're wrong

It's naive to compare Price with Brown. Brown was propelled into coaching faster than he should have by a unique combination of circumstances. Price's development as a coach has been slow-cooked for a number of years and probably will not get any riper than now. He has had those important years of apprenticeship in both NSW Cup and the Toyota Cup that we lamented of Brown - achieving some good results in both (the Toyota Cup side has been rubbish since he moved on). And obviously he has had the world's greatest mentor these last two years. Who better to continue Wayne's legacy and ensure his thinking, processes and systems remain than his own assistant? Do we need massive regime change? Obviously not.

You say we need a name coach? What so-called "name" coach would willingly follow an act like Bennett? What would they gain apart from dwelling in the eternal gloom of his long long shadow? They'd be on a hiding to nothing and would all shy away from it. In that case it's obvious the only choice is to give a new guy a chance, and there are few better candidates than what we already have. Michael Maguire? Maybe, I don't mind him tbh. But still believe Price is better suited to maintaining what has been built within the team these last 3 years. Besides, Price bettered him in the WCC anyway. ;-) As regards "attracting players", it doesn't appear to be a huge need for the club at this point in our history. Retaining players is the greater need, and Price can only help with that. Hopefully he can enhance his reputation in the first few years to such extent that he will be an attraction. It has to start somewhere.

Glass half full.

ps thanks for everything uncle Wayne. Club legend

Bloody Doust! He said NO to Bennett's request for 750,000 a year for 5 years. If he said YES PLEASE we would not be in this mess and have a well trained assistant coach to take over in 2014.

All Doust had to do to correct is mistake was to find a sponsor to help fund a 1m a year contract for the next 3 years. Not an impossible task.

I'd like to see Doust step down and give someone else a go. He has made too many mistakes.

Bout time, Im looking forward to moving on :)
Now were was I??? OH YES OUST DOUST LOL
.

That's a BIG worry. With the God of league at the helm we have heard stuff all from the tired and emotional one.
God help us if the next coach doesn't also keep the pacifier firmly between Doust's teeth.

We don't want him as a spokesperson for the team, keep him indoors with the liquid flowing and we may not return to previous times.

mate i understand everything you have said. But honestly, it's pretty much throwing price to the slaughter house. To follow Wayne Bennett we need an experienced coach. Not a young coach who's career could fade away if he fails. Which is a likely outcome. I just dont see any benefit for him or the club in the long term. We need an experienced coach who can attract new players. We need a coach that can keep the buzz surrounding the dragons alive. Commercially i think giving Price the job is an even bigger mistake. We've hit record memberships, we're selling more merchandise than ever before. I put this down to the fact Wayne Bennett has brought credibility, excitement and of course a premiership. Rugby League fans can be very fickle. To assume the hype and excitement will continue with Price is stupid. This decision needs to be more than just on the field. We need someone like Bellamy, Sheens, Mcguire, Potter. As i said, i like Price. But i can't see him at this stage havinh the man management skills to distance himself from the players as a voice of authority. Will the players look up to Price? Will they hang off every word? Will Price demand their respect? IMO, no. Why would we move away from the one thing that has brought us success in the last 31 years!!!!!!!!! Answer me that, please........it makes no sense other than that Doust was not able to attract another coach. Therefore we are forced to settle for Price. Simple.

Dont you want to continue what wayne has built. To bring in someone completely new will be worse as they will want to change everything. Our players know what to do and price is the right man for the job. Bloody bulldogs are able to bring players to the club - you just need the right $$

It's better to have loved and lost (in our case WON a premiership ) than never have loved at all!
Thanks Wayne

As for Price as coach, I'll be stoked if he continues to do the long backline movement like Dragons did in the WCC.

when he came to us i never expected him to come. when we won the minor premiership in 09, i never expected that to happen. when we backed it up in 2010, i also never expected that to happen, when we won the fu.ken comp, in my lifetime i never thought i'd live to see that day and that happened too.
this man gave me something i never thought i'd live to see. i'd be selfish if i thought he had to stay for me to want more.
he has allowed me tick off the thing that hung off me my entire life and i will forever cherish 2010. whatever happens from here is a bonus in my life as adragons fan.
bennett can do whatever he wants.
dragons forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This can't be true.

It's not Friday.

The St George Illawarra Dragons CEO Peter Doust and head coach Wayne Bennett will hold a media conference at midday today at Wollongong to discuss the coaching future at the club.

More to come.

From nrl.com. Why does everyone jump to conclusion so f***ing fast? Honestly, Wait till after this meeting then talk on it. Who knows what happening and only Bennett truly knows what he's going to do. (Likely leave though).

As Price for coach. As of yet although two years with Bennett as mentor I still don't see him as the best option, but he is a good option yes.
