i'd have roby actually....he offers more "go forward"
Meh, if you want go forward pick Issac Luke. If you want control of a game, skills of a halfback, strength of a backrower in defense and one of the best brains in the game you choose Smith. That and he can kick goals as well.

You often jim into threads I'm apart of with the intention to bust my balls. It's cute, because none of your attempts have landed but it just seems like a waste on your behalf.

Oh yes, because your video collection really did provide you with credit when it comes to comparing the greats of the 80's.

i think it's fair to say that Luke has troubled the Aussies far more than Roby in test matches though.

I think its fairer to say that Luke has been part of a Kiwi team thats troubled Australia but he's not nearly in the same league as Roby.

Smith and Roby offer different skills from the same position and the configuration of players around them would dictate which was better suited to the team effort.

Smith goes well in the Ausie team but maybe Roby would too maybe even more so.

nothing to choose between the pair of them in my opinion

 Spud tried to argue Roby is on par with Smith and he'd have Roby over Smith?

I'm JRno1fan but Smith is better.

Agreed, but that's a by-product of their slightly different styles. Luke's running game has troubled more, but his poor defence and at times poor service has caused them more problems too. Roby's running game would be just as good as Luke's, with the added benefit of rock solid defence and good service.

Can I be controversial and suggest that several of the ENglish players were better than several of the Aussie players, but over all Australia were better?

well its not really is give that luke can't even make the kiwi starting line up

to be fair to luke after the haka he needs a rest

Tomkins outplayed Boyd, hall outplayed uate, Graham and ellis were going great guns until injury.

i really hope the english smash the kiwi's and we have a rematch

As long as you have more than a few meaningless stats to present, yes you can certainly say that.

From the other side of the field?

Hall got 2 tries but also got much better service from his inside men. As usual, Aku had to go hunting for work himself. Hardly comparable.

Agree about the rematch. Would be a great final

In a sport that is becoming more and more a game of runs (ala basketball) as it speeds up and teams narrow the gap in ability, someone like Luke can be vital. Can being the operative.

he was that good :p

I meant Hall ahd a better game than Uate (not necessarily as a direct match up), if you were rating performances in that game regardless of direct match ups hall ahd a better game. Uate wasnt utilised well, but you cant take away Halls efforts

Uate was pretty shakey regardless of service. Off the top of my head, made a bad mistake fielding a kick and threw a bad offload to his skipper. Disappointing, because he's certainly capable of more.

With that said, I thought our entire backline was disappointing. Slater looked switched on for a big game but fate was unkind.

I certainly think there were some superior Pom players. Tomkins, Hall and Reed obviously stand out but Graham, Roby, Ellis (when he was on) and Morley played well too. I thought Chase had some really good touches, I thought his part in the Hall try really set it up (Sinfield nearly ruined it, Hall did really well) but let himself down with some bad decisions or his team mates (Yeaman especially) f**ked things up.

Yep, Aku made some weird errors that arnt in his usual game. Looked like he was trying too hard and just needed to relax a little.
