Interesting? Perhaps. But poorly written. The repetitive use of the word "boys" in describing 19 year old men is deliberately misleading.

Not misleading at all.

These boys or men were under Roebucks care. He was clearly in a position of trust and he abused it.

Given he was looking after them , 'boys' is an entirely fair description.

boys is not misleading. the prosecutor used it http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1359991/Ex-Somerset-captain-caned-young-cricketers.html

as did the judge

"So, not only were they in your care but you had power and influence over them and that power and influence was abused by you. You used your position to abuse these boys and humiliate them."

Pretty devastating really, 55 is too young.

Wrote a lot of great stuff about cricket, which showed his passion for the sport.

It's a minor miracle that Spanky maintained a career in public broadcasting and print after that case. I suppose his verbose prose appealed to those who liked to think of themselves as smarter than the average joe.

Ignore all the tributes, that's just the usual bs... many times I've listened to Grandstand and can almost hear the face palms from Skull and co once Roebuck started dribbling away.

For mine he was a pompous twit who wrote unreadable drivel, and isn't to be trusted around children.

Spanky's closet would just about rattle if you gave the door a good solid kick.

Skull has been one of the ones leading the praise for Roebuck all day.

But, I suppose you know better.

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...ck-death-inquest/story-e6frexni-1226194021508

The Daily Telegraph has learned Roebuck, staying on the sixth floor of the hotel, plunged to his death after jumping out of a window with police still in the room.
He landed on the awning outside the entrance to the hotel. Police removed personal items from his room and took his body to the mortuary yesterday morning.
A source said: "The police came to his room and wanted to speak to him. I'm told he was being questioned for sexual assault."
Wowser. Had no idea they were still there when it happened. He must have jumped infront of them. Did they come to his room to arrest him?

He was being questioned about an alleged sexual assault

Sorry , but innocent men dont jump.

Agreed! A person with nothing to hide would not have taken the drastic measures he did. Not the first time a person with a guilty conscience has decided to take their own life rather than face justice. Looks like those ppl who were saying that the suicide jump was directly correlated with the police interview were on to something. There must have been a very large skeleton in the closet that got unravelled which completely pushed him overboard.

I think it's tragic, as any thought process which would lead anyone to jump out of a 6th story window would be. I think anything wrong he may have done is bad but none of our business and not the way he should be remembered.

He was a good commentator. A good writer. An opinionated man who had great insight and wasn't afraid to target the big guns.

But possibly a sicko.

Will be very interesting to see what comes out of this.

If he abused anyone sexually , the world is a better place today without him in it.

Why should he be remembered in a positive light if this is the case?

Sexual abuse is everyone's business. Turning a blind eye only increases the chances someone else will be hurt.
