Clippers about to be very relevant (Deal agreed)

According to Fox Sports the deal for Paul to go to the Clippers is about to happen.

Paul will apparantly opt in for the 2012-2013 season which is why Clippers going to pay:

Minny's unprotected 1st round pick, Aminu, Bledsoe & Kaman's expiring contract.

That is a better deal than the Lakers for a couple of reasons. Aminu & Bledsoe are two really good young pieces to build around...even as role players...and that T-Wolves 1st round pick could turn into a top 5 pick to nab someone like a Harrison Barnes or someone like that next year.

With the Lakers deal they were saddled with old players, with a lot of salary tied up. Now they have good youth, cheap players to give them cap space & a likely high first round pick.

For the Clippers...a great deal. They get Paul for Bledsoe. THey signed Caron Butler for SF and they will likely match offer sheet for DeAndre Jordan getting rid of Kaman.

Clippers starting 5:

PG - Chris Paul
SG - Eric Gordon
SF - Caron Butler
PF - Blake Griffin
C - DeAndre Jordan

That is better than the Lakers right now imo. And I think that if they all stay healthy....that is a contending team.

Why?

Because all they could offer were old players? Or because their window is likely going to close unless they get Howard...

I prefer the Clippers deal to what they wanted to give up.

What they wanted to give up hindered New Orleans IMO.

These two young guys you can build around...and then more than likely you'll be a lottery team this year...and get Minny's pick...likely two top 10 picks and you could be in a position to be OKC after next season with a solid core of young players to develop & grow together into a contender.

All reports suggest that the hornets did not want be a top 10 drafting team but wanted to be competitive.

I think giving up Gasol and Odom and getting back CP3 is giving up more then the Clippers are giving up but I am looking forward to CP3 and Griffin. If the clips can add some depth they are looking good

Clippers being relevant will take some getting used to. Watch all the Clippers apparel pop up like Cleveland throwbacks.

The thing with the two LA deals was the vision NO had. They wanted short term competitiveness and it should never have been blocked.

Even though they're in LA the Clippers have always irrelevant so I'm actually glad to see him go there over NYC

Well if the NBA approves the Clippers deal they obviously didn't want short term competitiveness but wanted youth & high picks to build. That is what Woj was saying and I'd trust his info.

I think what is the best way to sell this franchise.

"Hi prospective owner. Here is my team. I have three players either 30+ or very near and locked into long deals and they are declining right now. I don't have a high pick to pick up a genuine superstar without being absolute luck...how much are you willing to pay"

OR

"Hi Mr Potential Owner. Here are two young pieces in Eric Bledsoe and Al-Farouq Aminu that we can build around. We then have have T-Wolves 1st rounder & lets face it it'll likely be top 10. Hey we mightn't be good this year, but if we are not, we'll have two top 10 picks to put talent next to our two young players. You can have a fantastic young core to establish your identity as an owner. How much will you pay"

I've always seen most people go gaga over youth & potential...rather than ageing and uncertainty. Especially in business.

Clips offering Gordon, Aminu, Kaman, Minny's unprotected 1st round pick for CP. League/NO wants Bledsoe put in deal. Clips mulling...

Wow...Gordon as well...THAT would set up the Hornets for the long run imo.

Basically just the young Clippers team aside from Griffin & Jordan.

PG - Bledsoe
SG - Gordon
SF - Ariza/Aminu
PF - Okafur
C - Kaman

Not bad...0.500 team.

Man if that's the deal, than it's better than the Lakers one.

Very good deal for the Hornets tbh.

The New Orleans Hornets and Los Angeles Clippers submitted a multiplayer blockbuster deal to the NBA on Sunday that would send All-Star point guard Chris Paul to Los Angeles, a source with knowledge of the discussions said Monday.

But the trade as presented has one hitch: The league, which owns the Hornets, wanted Eric Bledsoe, while the Clippers want to keep their point guard, the source said.
The deal would be done if the league hadn't asked for Bledsoe, according to the source.

The trade as submitted would cost the Clippers guard Eric Gordon, center Chris Kaman and forward Al-Farouq Aminu. It would also include Minnesota's first-round draft pick in 2012.

The Los Angeles Times, citing two sources familiar with the discussions, reported late Sunday the deal included Bledsoe, but the source told ESPN that is not so.

The Times' report said both parties were in the final stages of negotiations and that the NBA will likely review the deal Monday.

A source close to Paul said he has decided to pick up the option on his contract as part of the potential deal, meaning he would be in Los Angeles through at least the 2012-2013 season

Now I'm hearing that Eric Gordon might not be in the deal??

Can't see how that could be approved. Him being in it is what makes it a good trade for the Hornets.

Clippers pulled out of the deal. Didn't want to give up Gordon.

That's stupid of the Clippers imo.

Are you giving up alot?...yeah...but you are getting a top 5 player in the league for 3 young guys and an expiring contract.

They could sign a SG to replace him. Stupid from Clippers but watch the NBA get killed despite the Clippers being the ones pulling the plug

Deal back on. Seems as though this one will actually go through.

The Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a deal in principle with the league-owned New Orleans Hornets to acquire guard Chris Paul, according to sources close to the process.

The Clippers, sources said, will send guard Eric Gordon, center Chris Kaman, forward Al-Farouq Aminu and Minnesota's unprotected 2012 first-round pick to the Hornets for Paul.

The Clippers will also receive two future second-round picks, according to sources.

The deal is expected to be approved by the league Wednesday night, sources said.

Good trade for both teams. Cp3 and Griffin is going to be a fun tandem.

Also this must surely make the asking price for Dwight higher?

I don't know about giving up to much but I would of tried to get back Ariza or someone who can play a role for a finals push.

Paul/Foye/Bulter/Griffin/Jordan with Billups, Gomes and Mo Williams off the bench is pretty handy but it looks like they will have to play a fair bit with 2 PGs on the floor. Plus they have Bledsoe... Hmm that is a lot of pgs!

Williams doesn't have long on his deal left does he? I wonder what he could be flipped for. They need another SG and big man badly...
