I also felt we should have batted until drinks in the final session, but f**k - it's hard to be too critical. We had a lead of 450! Great deck or not, that's massive.

If Tendulkar get's his century here, Clarke would have overshadowed him

The timing of it can also work against India though Yappy... instead of thinking we only need to bat for 4.5 or 5 sessions to escape, they need to bat for 6.5.

Keep in mind if they reach the target and only lead by 50 runs and are dismissed, it's an Australian victory day 5 anyway.

The time that is left surely will worry the Indians, they won't be thinking its possible to win.

Nah they won't be thinking win. Never said they would. It's just we've opened up a tiny (very very tiny) chance that if they bat well they can win. They'd need to be 470 with wickets in hand by the end of tomorrow before they think win.

That's never been my point though. We've been well on top since lunch yesterday. Since about tea yesterday we've dominated the game to such an extent that India would rely on us f**king up to get into the game. We've now given them a slight chance to take the initiative if they bat well by taking our foot off their throats. If it were my call we'd have kicked them whilst they were down a fair bit longer. I would never have given them the possibility of batting for less than 6 and a bit sessions to escape.

So you'd have declared at either stumps today or 10 overs before.

I don't really think there's too much difference to be honest.

If anything they'll have a few more runs, but potentially 2-3 more wickets down which is more of a concern for dressing room moral.

I do understand your stance though, very much Ricky Ponting + Steve Waugh like.

Tendulker would have to score very big to overshadow Clarke and I don't doubt his ability to do so. I do however doubt the ability of the other Indians to stay with him long enough for him to do it. 100 will be hard enough the way they are going.
