Heard this morning that Nathan is moving his residence to Singapore. Not sure why, just that he is supposed to be moving.

I wonder if he will take his team with him. Tinkler could be thinking for the future when the NRL becomes truely international.

They could become the Singapore Knights.

He is probably doing it for tax reasons. But, maybe he thinks the tropical climate, and lots of curries, might help him lose weight.

Nathan Tinkler moves to Asia and plots expansion

BILLIONAIRE coal baron and Newcastle Knights owner Nathan Tinkler has moved full-time to Asia as he plots further expansion of his business portfolio.

ThE 36-year-old, who in February was ranked Australia's 26th richest person, has moved to Singapore to be closer to the Asian markets, investors and financiers.
He is pursuing new resource sector interests and plotting a move into port infrastructure.
Mr Tinkler's spokesman Tim Allerton said it was too early to reveal details of his plans.
"You'll hear about it," he told AAP.
The billionaire's Australian business interests, including ownership of the Newcastle Knights rugby league team, remain unchanged.
"That (Singapore) will just be his principal place of residence," Mr Allerton added.
"He's going to spend a lot of time in Australia, he's still committed to Australia and all his business interests here."

The married father of four previously lived in Mereweather, an upmarket beachside suburb in Newcastle.
He started out as an electrician in the Hunter Valley but made his fortune after selling his house to fund the purchase of a neglected Queensland coal mine.
He sold the mine for a vast profit and while maintaining a strong interest in the resource sector, he has since expanded into sports, property and thoroughbreds.
He took ownership of the Newcastle Knights NRL team in 2011 and the Newcastle Jets A-League team in 2010.

I'd say it's just for tax and he will spend half a year in Aus anyway.

If he is moving for tax reasons, he will need to spend a lot more than half a year away for the first few years to establish overseas residency.

The ATO has a lot of discretion in this sort of situation.

Yeah you'd love that. Perhaps Newcastle and the Hunter could then be considered Souffs territory, just like you encroach on Rooster's junior zones you f***ing scabs.

The top tax rate is 20% in Singapore.

He's moving there for that as well as to be in Asia to make the most of the Asian century. Not everything he does is directly relevant to the Knights.

A non resident is taxed on all Australian source income and pay capital gains tax on Taxable Australian Property which his business interests would be I'm pretty sure.

Well if he wants to take an exhibition game to Singapore, I'd go. I've only ever seen the airport there...

As punishment, the losing team has to paddle the field back to Oz.

It's a city state. Does it even have a decent footy stadium?

er? yeah.

They held the youth olympics last year and they also have the F1...they also have a national football team so you wuld expect some pretty descent facilities over there.

I saw a documentary the other day - its like HK without the pollution.
