Is Dave Taylor overrated ?

Yes.

Still one of the most talented players in the competition who can destroy a game but just too unreliable for my taste.

He's scored more tries and made more linebreaks than any other forward in the NRL this year. He's a freakish talent.

His problem is that his size is too big for his frame. He would be much better at 115kg. Unless he has room to run onto the ball he's not very effective and is very easy to tackle when he gets the ball from a standing start.

Reminds me of Carl Webb, does something brilliant then goes missing but still somehow gets huge raps.

Didn't rate him, then he played awesome from a couple of games in this season until recently where he's back to his old nuffieness.

I agree that he's over-rated, but calling him Carl Webb v.2 is very harsh, & downright insulting. One of Taylor's good games has accomplished more than Webb in his career.

How does 'something brilliant' remind you of Carl Webb? I mean, I understand the 'missing' part...but I think that's the first use of brilliant and Carl Webb in the same sentence ever on LU

He's very talented but his worth ethic is poor.
He probably would better with some weight off, I think he gets tired too easy and then instead of getting the energy stores used and soldiering on, he cowers and retreats.

maybe he should stop running at the centres?

just sayin
Why though? He's a big guy with the ability to draw 2-3 defenders and offload, creating space for those around him. Much like any other good wide running back rower (Mason in his peak years springs to mind). Most forward can make yardage up the middle, why waste him in that role.

Ideally he'd be combining the two, was doing that back end of last year and sometimes this year at all, doing the hard yard and then moving wide, but criticism of the wide running forward always baffles me when they are such an effective player, right back to Bob McCarthey and his ilk.

Yeah, I've never understood the "he only runs at small players" insult. That's not cowardice, it's called having half a brain.

Overrated or just hasn't performed at Origin level yet?? He may just not be Origin material who knows.

It's great that he can run at the edges, but he can only do that effectively if there is go forward provided in the centre of the field by the other forwards. If this is not occurring, Taylor is not a player who can help get that drive going.

For this reason, he would not be a priority signing for any side's pack unless they already had the go forward. Souths already had a good pack, as did the Broncos, and Titans are pretty good in the forwards so these sides are the ones that have been after him. A side looking to develop it's forward pack for go forward should and would not be after Dave Taylor.

Forwards actually have to do the pig work some of the time too mate. The fact that he sits back and lets the rest of his pack grunt it out of their own half speaks volumes about his lack of ticker

Yeah he's definitely a force for club footy, but even then he's inconsistent at times.
For those that are saying he is used wrong in Origin, how would you use him?

How is he 30kgs overweight? Have you seen the guy in person? His thighs are as thick as most peoples torsos.

If he's playing at 122kgs as reported, then he could lose 5-7kgs at most. He would literally not be able to get down to 92kgs unless he lost most of his muscle mass.
