Why don't they just use a proper auditing firm to keep tabs on the salary cap instead of the fool Schubert.

This guy has been involved with 4 clubs as a player and administrator (manly, wests, dogs and roosters) it's time to bring someone who's never been affiliated to a club in the past..

this could well be the only thread in the history of LU where Parra fans unite in a topic...lol

To be fair, the point of sale advertising for Hindy's book (the cover) has him in his Eels kit. The NRLis very clear about third party work being included under the cap where the player is displaying official club paraphernalia.

I doubt that Hindy was the first player to release a book whilst playing so there should be heaps of precidences out there to follow. As long as the rules have been applied consistantly, then there's no problem

Yeah - except that other players have also released books in recent years while playing and not had it included in the salary cap.

And they've also appeared in club colours.

Okay so I just asked a player that released his book not so long ago and as far as he knows it was NOT included in the cap.

i don't think anyone is claiming that it SHOULD be part of the cap - its just that no one ever officially told the NRL Hindy would make money from it while still playing which is apparently the rule - so they are being picky about it and possibly fining us

possibly a bit amateur from us to not have realised it needed to be communicated to the NRL - we promoted the book heavily so no one can claim they didn't know it was happening - perhaps if we had a proper football manager at the time he would have twigged and done it?

The problem is the consistency of application of the rule.

Sounds like bullshit. Being that inconsistent about applying salary cap rules would just leave Schubert and the NRL open to a lawsuit. They would definitely challenge the fine and succeed.

how can you possibly know if they are being inconsistent? ... for all we know, every other club that has had a player who did such a book told the NRL about the 3rd party earnings of the player from the book .... i honestly don't know if any of us can claim we know they did or didn't

... OR schubert could just be being a prick cos we are causing him headaches over izzy

are you for real, after giving this game amazing service a bloke like Hindmarsh can't cash in on some intellectual property without being subjected to red tape...FMD!! has he done the same to Civ or Gaz??..after all if it wasnt for their respective clubs they probably wouldnt have the career that they did.

the guy hates us he always has and we'll f**k us over however way he can as long as he's in the position he's in.

Maybe Hindy should have worn a nice suit (like he did on channel 9) on the cover of his book. And redacted all references to the club in the text.

well as I said, its not about including it in the cap, its about not advising the NRL of a 3rd party deal which apparently is supposed to happen

i agree, they are being nit picking wankers - and as stagger said to be picky like this for a guy who has been such a credit to the game is f'n ridiculous - they should have been content to issue a stern warning .... but seems they didn't, which makes me wonder if they are playing some politics to get leverage in the izzy thing as i posted earlier

I think you have a point here. I am sure there are a set of rules and the NRL would be mindful of demonstrating that they have followed a process.

However, it seems that they can be hit and miss when it comes to the rigour around which these rules are enforced (witness them missing the major rorts of Bulldogs and Melbourne versus wanting to understand the ins and outs of a dodgy book).

I guess it is also down to how open and transparent a club wants to be. I have done audits before and it is always easier to find non-compliances if the people being audited lift up their skirt and tell you all their secrets.

Law abiding clubs like Parramatta can be an easy target for the NRL to show that they are doing a great job and the salary cap is 'biting'.

Don't worry Schuey, we already know the salary cap bites. It bites massive wangs!
