Supersonics a step closer to returning

I was a mad Sonics fan. Seattle's a city with a different spirit than other parts of America. Its got a very much underutilised and undersold natural harbour, is hilly as all hell, its a centre of invention obviously with MS, Boeing and even the birth of Starbucks... and it lets you know it too, but it kinda sucked last year going to the EMP, and looking across and thinking just across from there was where Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton had a terrific partnership. I specifically wanted to go to Seattle for two reasons - the Seattle sound, and the Sonics. Man, I'd love to go back there if the Sonics were readmitted. As a kid growing up admiring the Sonics, that would be wicked.

A DL team would be a certainty if we were getting an expansion team.

Less likely if hensen buys a team. Whichever team he buys would already have a DL team connection at least. And a bought team comes with a roster , an expansion team might have a place for 2 or 3 DL players on their roster. Though likely on the injured list.

DL teams don't always have a singl team they are affiliated with, and it does change and teams can move (Warriors as an example). The team moved and change affiliates after being bought out by the GSWarriors. Perhaps a DLeague team could be moved to Seattle, until a full NBA team can be moved to Seattle, the move the DLeague team over the border to Vancouver, or anywhere else for that matter (Alaska? :p)

Last i seen Kemp dude was overweight. That was years ago though.

I'd rather get the glove back in his prime. His D and trashtalk vs all these gun PGs we have would be awesome!

Actually I saw kemp on a youtube clip criticising blake griffin's dunks and saying his were better, made him seem like an insecure dick.

If the Kings left, Sacramento would be the largest US metro area without representation in a major sporting league...for that reason I can't see it being the Kings

The kings are in massive trouble.

They'll move somewhere else IMO. Just a matter of if the maloofs still own them or sell them to someone else.

It's always sad to see a team move , but the sac kings are a relocation team already.

Rumours abound that New Orleans will change the name to 'Pelicans' and the colours to gold, navy and red

I thought the name was a gee up but apparently it's gaining momentum.

Bizzare name.

Look for the bobcats to change to the hornets as soon as this happens.

Kings move to Seattle and change their name to Supersonics.
NO change the name of their team to something else
Charlotte Bobcats change their name to the Hornets.

Seems like it’ll be a busy time for the NBA to see what history stays with who...

Apparently Pelicans is only one of the five names trademarked.
On Tuesday, BehindTheBuckPass.com reported that NBA attorney Anil V. George had filed trademarks for five potential team names: Pelicans, Rougarou, Mosquitos, Swamp Dogs and Bullsharks. BehindTheBuckPass.com noted that Rougarou is a “beast from Louisiana folklore,” a Swamp Dog is slang for an alligator, and that Bullsharks can be found in the Gulf of Mexico. Mosquitos are notoriously prevalent in the region.

In terms of sonics history that is split between Seattle and OKC. This was the agreement when the sonics left town.

The new sonics will fly the 79 championship banner and the numerous pacific divsion & western conference titles.

They also will hang the retired numbers of former sonics and be able to retire new numbers of pre 2008 sonics.

The history is split but my guess is the sonics will now take it on mostly as Seattle will have a team again.

Yeah heard that they were developing a new arena.. Can't believe it's only two years away. Once the sonics got the kick my nba viewing and general coverage died. I really do feel bad for the kings fans base. I remember scouring the net for anything that mentioned a possible return to the league.. I just about gave up.

So this means as of next season right, the sonics will be back?
