Jersey question

This may be a silly question but do first grade rugby league players have their jerseys cleaned or do they get a new strip each week? They are made of different material these days and must be a nightmare to get back to perfection each week. Anyone have the answer?

The worst player in the team's mum has to wash them every week, that's the only reason they're in the team

Barba's old girl must be belting through the Napisan this year, then. On the bright side, at least she doesn't have to bother washing Benny's shirt after games.

I remember Peter Ryan used to always have a massive blue stain across the front of his jersey when he played for the Broncos in the late 90's/early 2000's. Used to give me the sh*ts that they couldn't either clean it or get it replaced.

Yeah, they only replace them if necessary. But then again there's so many different jerseys used during a season these days there's not as much need to re-use any of them. Obviously some are one offs anyway and they often get auctioned or whatever.

More importantly, do players have to keep their own shorts and socks and bring them each week? That's what I want to know. I bet they don't.

I reckon there's a guy that collects all the socks and gets them washed.

Thanks for your responses was good to get to the bottom of it. I noticed the bulldogs were covering up a sponsor last night and it got me thinking.

Each club has a gear steward. They are responsible for the collection and washing.

At the sharks there is a list of what size jersey and what size shirts each player wears.

When they arrive each game the jersey shorts and socks are in numbered bags from 1-17 or whatever.

At the end of the Game the players were responsible for putting their gear back into each bag.

At the sharks we had 4 people who checked off all the gear was returned, turned the gear in the right and sorted it into jerseys socks and shorts. They were hen responsible for delivering the gear to the cleaners and picking it up ready for the next game. These guys were older and in sure they had been with the club since day 1.

This was the usual, unless players had requests like new socks every week, or only wanted socks they had worn and brought with them, or shorts 2 sizes too big.

They re-wash and use them, they've always got spares though. As you know, some get auctioned off though.

It would get to expensive to have a jersey every week. 17 jerseys each week for however many rounds a team survives, it's not cheap in the long run.

Very insightful, cheers.
