I don't think Hayne would leave. Article in the smh says he wants him to stay at eels but its entirely up to Stuart but they would need to move on quickly if he did go (doesn't suggest he is thinking of going)

sounds like it doesn't suggest he's told the playing group he's staying either as many have suggested

he probably said something about being committed (meaning, until the end of this season) - and the grapevine turns that into "ricky told the players he is staying"

who knows - maybe he is staying??? ... never consider anything done these days until it IS done

There will be no excuses at 5pm this afternoon. Won't be about the players anymore seeing that the season is over. Time to commit Ricky.

i don't think he'll say anything at 5pm - he'll dodge it again ... if anything happens it will happen later next week

If he does not commit tonight there is a real chance he will leave. I read that the Raiders coaching committee are meeting today. Who meets on a Sunday unless there is something pressing to rubber stamp?

even if players do have get out clauses where are they going to go this late in the season when everyone has spent their cap for next year already

The Raiders have lost Dugan, Ferguson, Thompson, Williams, Berrigan and replaced them with Setu, Bill Topou and Jordan Rapana... We've got a fat stack of cash committed to Anthony Milford, but if he leaves for QLD, we've got a truck load of money with no one to spend it on.

Even if we give significant upgrades and keep Milford, Wighton and Edrick Lee, we will still have plenty to throw at someone should they want to follow Stuart.

I can see maybe Norman going but that's about it. Peats came for more game time more than anything

If he goes (Ricky) and we replace him with a decent coach then I'm sure we will keep the m

As ive said before, i hope he stays. He'll get a clean slate with me if he comes to canberra, but he's not my favourite coaching target. I would much rather see him coaching another club tbh. Just making the point that not every club has spent their salary cap. The Raiders have an absolute war chest sitting there right now thanks to Dugan, Ferguson, Earl, Thompson, Williams, Berrigan and the probably loss of the guy we had penned in to take a big chunk of that cash - Milford

The Raiders board seem to always meet before home games.

The reason you had to let those players go is to upgrade the ones you kept, such as Papalii.

The main reason Milford wants to leave is because you can't afford the upgrade he wants. Of course now Ferguson's gone Milford will certainly stay.

We let Thompson go because of Papalii, we let Williams go because we didnt rate him long term over Mitch Cornish (we did table Williams a 2 year deal which was to cover us incase Cornish wasnt as good as we think he is, but he declined the offer), Earl was attempting to flee the country before ASADA caught up with him (not quick enough it seems), Berrigan is 34 and rightly retired and Dugan and Ferguson were sacked, not because we needed cap money, but because they were merkins.

The only one we lost due to cap issues was Joel Thompson, the club was forced to spend more than they wanted on Papalii and didnt want that much money tied up in the back row (we'll have Fensom to upgrade soon too), add to that it's the easiest position in the game to fill.

I dont know where you got your info Poupou but you are well of the mark. Thompson aside, none of the players leaving us are due to cap issues.

Do you want Stuart to be your coach?

No. We could do worse and ill wipe the slate clean and give him my full support if he comes, but whilst we could do worse, id like to think we can do better too

I also dont think it will say much about his character to come into a squad, tear it to pieces and jump the ship only 12 months into the job. Board issues or not, i think he owes it to the Eels players who will be there next year, who have bought in and are committed to turning it around with him, i think we owes it to them to stick out with them. JMO though.

Hard to knock back our deal though, he's an old boy of the club so will have big money and next to no accountability. It's almost a job for life if he's in anyway decent. So that's a very hard thing to knock back in the coaching world. Especially given it's entirely possible he'll be sacked within 12 months

Every player that leaves is due to the salary cap. Otherwise it would be like the early 90s where Brisbane and Canberra stockpile players in reserve grade.
